Friday Night Lights Preview

On July 26 Ohio State is hosting some of the top talent in the country in a camp Called Friday Night Lights. This is an event that Urban Meyer created in his second year at Florida however he has brought it to Ohio State and this will be the second year Ohio State has hosted this event and it is looking like it is going to be even better than ever. Friday Night lights has numerous challenges and multiple Buckeye greats giving instructions and helping teach the upcoming stars what it takes to be great.

The writer at 247sports got a great picture of what the scoreboard looked like while the players warmed up.

Ohio State has released their schedule for the activities that are going to take place and here is how it is going to go down:

• Registration starts at 6:00 PM and ends at 6:30 PM.
• All the campers get welcomed by OSU Coaching Staff
• Strength & Conditioning
• Individual Drill Instruction
• 1 on 1, Pass Rush, Skill vs. Skill Workouts and most fans favorite even is the smoke house race between each position group which can be seen on the last video!
• And to end the night off the players receive a dinner

Ohio State has always attracted top recruits to every camp they put on however this camp is different than any camp they have for the rest of the year. Friday Night Lights is a camp on steroids and the players get to enjoy their time listening to their favorite music and competing head to head against the best players at their position.

Ohio State has a large list of prospects attending along with quite a few of our commits such as Damon Webb, Marcelys Jones, Jamarco Jones, Sam Hubbard, Lonnie Johnson, Kyle Trout, Terry McLaurin, Kyle Berger, Dylan Thompson and Sean Nuernberger. Here are a few of the bigger names that are currently uncommitted:

• 2014 LB Raekwon McMillan (Hinesville, GA) -this is the number one player left on Urban’s radar. 5 star linebacker is bringing his family with him on this trip, which is never a bad thing.

• 2014 DB Erick Smith (Cleveland, OH)- Another glenville recruit who will probably wait till signigng day to commit but we need to make a huge impression to secure his commitment.

• 2014 ATH Marshon Lattimore (Cleveland, OH)- This is the same story as Erick Smith , we need to convince him that Ohio State is the right school for him even if he does wait the whole process before he decides.

• 2015 QB Lorenzo Nunez (Kennesaw, GA)- Ohio State has already offered 4 quarterbacks for next year but Lorenzo came to camp and after the first few throws he was offered on spot, Urbans track record with QB offers means he is a kid that will show off his great talent and might be the best qb at Friday night lights as a soon to be junior.

• 2015 DE Jashon Cornell (St. Paul, MN)- The number 1 rated defensive end according to 247 is high on the buckeyes list and the feeling is mutual. Look for him to dominate the offensive lineman in one on ones.

• 2015 AT Eric Glover-Williams (Canton, OH)- This is just one more important visit for the most explosive 2015 players in Ohio who is a huge Ohio state lean this could be the weekend he pulls the trigger.

• 2015 LB Darrin Kirkland Jr. (Indianapolis, IN)- He is rated as the number three inside linebacker and this is his second trip to Columbus, he currently does not hold an offer but do not be surprised if he performs well to see him earn one.

• 2015 ATH Jerome Baker (Cleveland, OH)- Urban wants him to be one of the first commits for the 2015 class and Jerome is taking every step in the right direction to becoming it by visiting and getting to know some of the 2014 commits and 2015 prospects.

• 2014 ATH Curtis Samuel (Brooklyn, NY)- Curtis became a late addition to the list however we are happy to welcome this athletic freak to campus and show him the time of his life. This is one of the last skilled position players Urban would be willing to take which should tell you something.

Here is the complete list thanks to eleven warriors

Here are a few videos from last years Friday Night Lights so you can get an idea of what the camp is all about!

The Best of the B1G, #19 Jeremy Gallon

b1g_iconJeremy Gallon is a red shirt senior that plays wide receiver and is a return specialist for Michigan. He was a 2012 All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection. Jeremy is from Apopka, Florida. He is majoring in general studies. Gallon was a four star prospect and the number eleven wide receiver according to Rivals.com. Also, Rivals rated him as the fifth-best athlete because of his good ball skills. Coming back into his senior year, Jeremy is planning on having a standout year. He was much experience with the team which makes him very valuable for the offense and special teams.

jeremy_gallon

In his 2012 season, Jeremy had 829 receiving yards coming off of 49 receptions. Jeremy is also going to have a big leadership role for Michigan this season. Being a redshirt senior shows that he was much experience with the team. He should be able to help the Michigan offense a great deal. Him and Garnder will have good chemistry this season. Without Denard, Michigan needs someone to produce key plays. As a return specialist and a wide receiver Jeremy can do that.

Here is highlights from the Alabama game:

Jeremy is going to be the key receiver for Michigan this upcoming season. Which means that he is going to be a key matchup against solid corners in the BIG Ten. Michigan’s offense is going to heavily determined through Jeremy’s success. It is going to be interesting to see what Jeremy will show this upcoming season.

MotSaG Chat with Alex Gourley

68aad070a3932a74202bf1924b7214e1

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Alex Gourley a 2016 recruit from North Carolina. He has a lot of promise and skills and as you can see below he already has a good knack for talking to the media. I hope you all enjoy reading this interview as I did writing it. buckeye Nation needs to get to know this young man as his name will start blowing up soon and is already on a national level.

SYR- If you could please tell us about your home life… Parents, brothers and/or sisters, where you were born, have you always lived in in the same place?

Alex- I was born in Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville NC. I am the middle child of my family with an older brother and a younger sister. Both of my parents are bankruptcy attorneys, so we were treated well growing up. When I was about six, we moved to Mooresville NC, where we still live today. I find humor in the fact that my current school’s rival is Statesville.

SYR- Tell us a little bit about your HS FB team such as record and offensive style. What are your goals for the upcoming season?

Alex- I play for South Iredell High School, and this past season, I had the honor to start on a state champion team as a freshman. This past season, we went 14-2, which is a record number of wins for my school. We have a spread offense and try to go 50/50 with our running and passing. We run a no huddle offense where we have a silent count and I get to decide when to snap the ball. We are moving up in size this coming season to a 3A high school and will be in a new conference. It will be harder than last season, but many of the teams we are going to face, we have played before. Our goals are to win our conference and possibly states as well. We say put your goals high, otherwise they aren’t worth setting.

SYR- What college football team did you grow up being a fan of and why?

Alex- I grew up as a UNC Tar heel because I come from a family of people who went to UNC Chapel Hill. Both of my parents went with a Moorhead scholarship and my brother recently got the Moorhead Cain scholarship, so both of my parents went there, and my brother will be going there.

SYR- What was the Rivals250 Underclassman Camp in Dallas like for you and what coaches or players did you get to talk with or work with?

Alex- Rivals invited the top 250 recruits in the country to Dallas for a chance to get one on one film for our rival accounts. It was a very interesting experience for me. I went in knowing that I was going to go up against the best competition of my life so far, so there was a chance that I would get beaten badly in the one on ones. I went in with the mindset that I may not win a single one on one, but I was going to give them my all. I ended up winning the majority of the one on ones, so I was very happy with the outcome of it. The coach that was there for the offensive line was George Hegamin, who played for the Dallas Cowboys for seven years. He prepared us for the one on ones.

SYR- Who would you say is your personal hero and why?

Alex- I would have to say my brother. A few years ago, his ACL was torn and he had to have surgery to replace it. This past season, he reinjured it early in the season, but he soldiered on and finished out the season. In not too long he will have surgery again and his drive to finish what he started really motivates me to do everything I do with the intention of finishing what I started.

SYR- If you were going to die tomorrow what would your final meal be?

Alex- I would eat as many Buffalo wings as I possibly could. They are my favorite food by far and wouldn’t have to deal with the digestion problems that they cause.

SYR- Who do you think you compare to most in the NFL or College right now?

Alex- It’s hard for me to compare myself to people in higher levels, but I admire Ryan Kalil because he isn’t the biggest, but he is one of the best centers in the league.

SYR- Who is your favorite College player of all time? And favorite NFL player of all time if different from College?

Alex- Jeff Saturday is my favorite NFL and College player of all time due to the fact that he is a center, and he is amazing at what he does.

SYR- I know the recruiting process is early for you and I am sure it is tough for you to come up with a top 5 schools list but could you maybe list the top 5 schools you would like to get an offer from and why?

Alex- Academics have a large influence on my choice of schools. Stanford, Notre Dame, Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, and OSU all have great economic/business programs, which is the field of study I wish to pursue.

SYR- You are listed as a Center is that what you want to play at the next level? Would you prefer another spot on the OL?

Alex- Center is my preferred position and I think that I would play that position at the next level. My height is something that would also probably prevent coaches from putting me at other positions.

SYR- Are you also a Longsnapper? Is that something you excel at as wow?

Alex- I do not do longsnapping even though I do a lot of shotgun snapping. Longsnapping would be something that is good to know, but right now I am focusing on being a normal center.

SYR- What would you like Buckeye Nation to know about you that they most likely don’t already know?

Alex- Even though football is a big part of my life, I am going to college with academics first in my mind. A football career can be gone with a single injury, but knowledge will still be there.

Alex Gourley is a 6’1″ 260 lbs 4 star OC from Statesville, North Carolina. Alex is young as a true sophomore in high school. He is already though racking up invites to some of the best recruiting showcases around the country. He is a little undersized but still growing into his body. he brings speed and quickness to the Center position. He has a good head on his shoulders and will put academics at the forefront of his career. As you can see below recruiting sites are starting to take notice.

Here are some of his highlight films…

OSU FootballOSU LogoAfter what I dubbed a Buckeye Black Monday yesterday there will be no information about yesterdays happenings in this post. Feel free to browse the site to get caught up on the negative stuff that went down yesterday. I am dubbing today Terrific Tuesday nothing but positive news.

M-V-P, M-V-P, M-V-P: Ohio State’s Amedeo Della Valle helped his Italian team win the Gold in the under 20 European Championship. Congratulations and way to represent Buckeye Nation Della Valle.

Stand up action: As I have reported to you before 12 year old Grant Reed Beat Michigan (his cancer). The story traveled all over and Michigan fans were even excited for Reed now it seems Michigan football head coach Brady Hoke has joined into the story. Hoke reached out to the Reed family and offered 4 tickets to The Game in Ann Arbor this year. Mr. Hoke that was a stand up move and I will be the first to say you are a class act.

Buckeye Diver: Junior Buckeye Diver Cheyenne Cousineau and fellow Ohioan Murphy Bromberg finished seventh in the FINA World Aquatic Championships yesterday.

Media Preseason B1G Champs: The Ohio State Buckeyes football team received 26 out of 27 first place votes from the B1G media. Not really shocking with the talent that is coming back for the 2013-2014 season and the talent Urban recruited. Can’t wait till the season starts.

B1G Championship: Want to go to the Big Ten Football Championship game in Indianapolis? Tickets go on sale this Saturday.

Until next time Buckeye Nation…

Full OSU press release

With everything that has been going on today OSU finally put out a full press release and did clear up some rumors and shared more bad news.

Here is the full press release from OhioStateBuckeyes.Com.

July 22, 2013

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer today suspended senior running back Carlos Hyde, from Naples, Fla., from all football team activities pending the outcome of the student code of conduct and criminal investigations. Hyde was named in a City of Columbus Police Department report that was issued Monday.

Meyer also took disciplinary action Monday against two freshmen who were involved in legal issues in the past week: tight end Marcus Baugh, from Riverside, Calif., and defensive lineman Tim Gardner, from Indianapolis. He also announced that senior cornerback Bradley Roby, from Suwanee, Ga., will not attend Big Ten media days this week. Roby was involved in a legal issue this weekend in Bloomington, Ind., and, as more information becomes available, could face additional discipline.

“I have a clear set of core values in place that members of this football program are constantly reminded of and are expected to honor,” Meyer said. “There are also expectations with regard to behavior. I expect our players to conduct themselves responsibly and appropriately and they will be held accountable for their actions.”

Baugh has been removed from all team activities and will sit out the first game of the season, Aug. 31 vs. Buffalo, for his arrest last weekend for underage possession of alcohol and possessing a fake identification. His actions will also result in the loss of his summer aid.

Gardner is being sent home and will not be a part of the 2013 team after he was charged Saturday night by Columbus police with obstruction of official business.

“Swift, effective and fair discipline is the standard for our entire athletics program,” Director of Athletics Gene Smith said. “I applaud Coach Meyer for his immediate actions.”

With this information coming out it is pretty clear that

1.) Hyde won’t be kicked off the team unless he is convicted of a serious crime.

2.) Roby while in trouble wont face missing too much time for his legal issue.

3.) Tim Gardners career is over before it ever started.

4.) Marcus Baugh learned a lesson.

5.) The team is on lockdown for sure.

Accusations against Carlos Hyde

Saturday, I received a direct message on Twitter from a source whom I trust to be 100% reliable. That source had a very detailed (and troubling) story. Those details made a prominent member of the OSU FB team look extremely bad. The problem was, I couldn’t confirm or deny the claims. At best I am a blogger and at worst I am a stay at home dad. I am not a journalist or a reporter, we don’t “break stories” here at this site and I don’t have ways to confirm stories. So together with the editor of this website we made the decision to let the world know something was coming down the pike which would upset fans. We did so through Twitter and it was after a long and arduous discussion. The decision wasn’t easy and we could not imagine how it would be perceived. Some people were angry, others concerned, but overall the most consistent feeling was disbelief.

This story is starting to unravel on social media and it is becoming apparent everyone has some of the story. Here is the story through the eyes of our source who has information we couldn’t verify with multiple sources but do feel confident as being accurate given the rumblings we are hearing.

Below is a copy of the conversation I had with my source. I have redacted the source’s name and those involved.

Hey man whats up?

Carlos Hyde punched one of my roommates in the face last night at the club… And of course (as she should) she’s pressing charges

Her uncle already contacted Luke fickle.

Is this in public yet or just people in the know?

In the know.

Just happened last night

Think this is news I should share with public or wait for something official?

Wait for official. Please and thank you. I will at least keep you updated from what I hear. Ill talk to her later if anything

But something official will most likely come out on Monday… You know how it goes

ok I wont say anything unless I hear something is public…. Can I ask you what her name is just so I can search police records?

[Victim]. Her dad is a cop in Westerville. Thankfully (though unfortunately for her) he is on tour in Afghanistan atm

Have any more details? Where did it happen? When? Is she ok? Is there any injurues?

I want to say _ _ _ _ in Columbus, Friday night. She is fine, face is a little swollen. Other than that no, she has no apparent bruises

Is she sure it was him? Are they going to press charges?

She says that when he ran off, the other ppl in the VIP section said “I can’t believe [Player] just did that”

She is confident that it was him. She does plan on pressing charges, might have already. Apparently she went to police station…

Why did he punch her?

She says that he was insisting that he danced with her. She said not. Says he hit her.

Then he ran off after. According to (victim’s friend)

Ugh this is potentially huge news and I want to wait for something official but seems like too big not to at least allude to it…

But as we both know, allegations are just that, alleged.

I am going to allude to having knowledge of an incident but not use names on twitter…. is that cool?

I do appreciate that 🙂 I know it’s your job to provide as soon as you know. No need to blemish your name

Yeah it is tough not having enough proof but I also cant sit on this and pretend like it may not have happened

Dude I totally understand.

is it ok to give out details but leave names out or just leave it as I have already done?

Details are fine, but yes please leave names out

Any new info?

(Victim) just came and picked up the police report from my roommate. (Victim) is taking reports to police station as we speak

witness statements?

Yes, my bad

As you can see this was a fly by the seat of my pants situation. I have never had to deal with getting this kind of info. While it would have been great to be able to confirm the entire story with a second source or a police report it just wasn’t possible over the weekend. The info I had was specific and detailed and my source has an impeccable reputation with me. As most of you can see by now other sites are running with the info and using names. The victim in this case will not be named by us here at MotSaG and nor will my source. I hope people understand that lives are affected by this situation and we tried to do the best we could for all of them involved even the alleged attacker. We strive to do r best everyday and sometimes we have to just take the lumps with the praise.

Carlos was not arrested at the scene. He has not been charged with a crime as of right now. My sources believe the case is being turned over to the District Attorney to decide if charges are to be filed.

The Best of the B1G, #20 Mark Weisman

b1g_iconMark is going into his Junior season at Iowa playing at the fullback position. He ranked 9th in the BIG Ten in rushing yards per game. In his 2012 season he rushed for 815 yards. Mark showed throughout the 2012 season that he can go off anytime in any game and rush for a large amount of yards. He is going to be the key for Iowa’s success on offense.

mark_weisman

Mark emerged in the 2012 season. Many Iowa fans did not know Mark would make such a huge contribution to the Iowa offense. His first start at tail back was against Central Michigan when he ran for over 200 yards. This opened many eyes.

Here is a nice piece on Mark:

It will be interesting to see how Mark does in the upcoming season for the Hawkeyes. He will be an offense threat to every team the Hawkeyes play.

Bradley Roby also arrested

In the world is coming to an end after the story I had to write this morning concerning Carlos Hyde. Comes a total apocalypse story that Bradley Roby was also arrested.

According to Tim May in the Columbus Dispatch…

According to Monroe County court records, Roby was arrested early yesterday morning in Bloomington and is facing preliminary charges of battery resulting in bodily injury. Sources told The Dispatch he was asked to leave a bar after a disturbance, refused, and was subdued by bouncers at the bar before being taken into custody.

Also in that same story Mr. May says a source he has says that Carlos Hyde has been dismissed from the team….

Sources told The Dispatch this morning that Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer has dismissed No.1 running back Carlos Hyde, who was named as a person of interest in a weekend assault against a female in a Downtown bar, and that he is still looking into a situation regarding starting cornerback Bradley Roby in Bloomington, Ind., over the weekend.

While I have no doubt that Mr. Mays source is anything less than fully credible I imagine it will be announced as suspended indefinitely. But the truth is the team is in a shambles right now and this wont help anything. Lets just hope that these cases get cleared up quickly and everyone else stays at home when not at practice.

MotSaG Chat with Parris Campbell JR

I enjoyed interviewing Parris Campbell Jr. as he was extremely insightful and mature in his answers which is impressive for a kid who just had his 16th birthday last week. Parris is physically superior to most kids at his age as he stands 6″0 184 lbs and running an extraordinary 4.41 40 yard dash. Parris was Ohio States 4th commit and we got lucky on this one from all reports he made a smooth transition to wide receiver at The Opening and was his teams most reliable receiver. He is going to fill in at the famous role that all Buckeye fans are aware of now the “percy harvin” role.

247 lists Parris as the number 13 overall wide recover and 119 overall player in the country
Rivals list Parris as the number 23 overall athlete
Scout lists Parris as the number 9 overall running back

Q: When you were offered by Ohio State, how long did it take you to realize that it was the right school for you?

A: not long at all I always wanted to go to Ohio State. Since I was a kid it was always my dream school. I just had to make sure on my visits and after those visits everything was set. I was all OSU.

Q: When you think of Ohio State football what come to your mind?

A: tradition, national championships, winning, and family

Q: Which Ohio State coach do you speak with the most?

A: Mike Vrable

Q: Are any other schools still trying to recruit you, or have you shut your recruitment completely down?

A: I have completely shut it down but I still get letters from other colleges like TTUN, Alabama, and a lot of other schools

Q: It feels like all the commits are pretty close to each other, did you guys get to spend a lot of time together at The Opening?

A: yes we spent tons of time together. Every night we got together and just chilled in someone’s room

Q: What did it feel like getting invited to The Opening which many consider the greatest accomplishment a high school football player can receive?

A: it was an amazing feeling it was football heaven. I felt really good inside to know I got mentioned as one of the best in the nation and got to compete against the others.

Q: Was it tough making the transition to more of a wide receiver role at The Opening?

A: no not really because I’ve always been like a running back and a slot receiver at my school.

Q: What do you think you learned the most from being at The Opening?

A: that if you want to make it to the pros. It’s not easy at all. It’s all hard work. You decide if you want to succeed no one else.

Q: Who was the best player that covered you?

A: ill have to say Tony brown

Q: What is your personal goal for your senior season at St. Vincent- St. Mary?

A: to win another state championship

Q: What do you need to work on most before you step on the field at Ohio State?

A: probably my route running, and getting a lot stronger and getting faster.

Best of the B1G, #25-21

b1g_iconWe are counting down who we feel are the best players of the B1G. This first week we started at the bottom of the top twenty-five and worked our way up to twenty-one. We started with a Buckeye, offensive guard Andrew Norwell.

#25 Andrew Norwell

Norwell is as steady as she goes and pretty much the definition of consistency on an offensive line loaded with talent and experience. Norwell anchored a Buckeye running game that finished an impressive 10th in the nation last year. Norwell has 25 starts in his career, 20 of which came at left guard. He’s played more snaps last year than any other Buckeye, playing 862 snaps. Norwell played 98.8% of the offensive snaps last year as well and that lead the team.

#24 Chris Borland

there is no better-run stopper at linebacker in the Big Ten due to the fact he always fills the right hole and he is strong enough to disengage blocks from quite a few offensive lineman. He has a knack for punching the ball loose, in his career at Wisconsin he has forced a total of 13 fumbles, which is one shy of setting both a Big Ten and FBS record of 14 forced fumbles. Borland is on the Bednark watch list for the second straight season. He also finished with the honors of first team all Big Ten in 2012.

#23 Max Bullough

This year, it’s up to last year’s leader in tackles, Max Bullough, to take the reigns of the defense and lead it through a favorable conference schedule that dodges Ohio State, Penn State, and Wisconsin while facing the rival Wolverines at home.

#22 Darqueze Dennard

As a junior, he played all 13 games and was selected as an All-Big Ten player, recording 52 tackles and 3 interceptions. What he brings to the team is a great blend of skills; he can play zone and man coverage, can break fast from the line of scrimmage, has impressive catch-up speed, and as an added feature, he can tackle.

#21 Shane Wynn

Shane Wynn is the smallest player in the B1G at 5’7″ and 163 lbs. But the tiny WR from Cleveland Glenville High School puts up giant numbers for the Indiana Hoosiers. He is a prime example of a guy who wasn’t recruited by larger more more successful CFB programs and had to fight his way onto a B1G team.
