2007 Preview (Better late than never edition)

OSU FootballWith the season only a few days away (we’ve been counting them down, if you hadn’t noticed) I proposed a few preview-type questions to my fellow MotSaG’ers and over the next few days I’ll be posting their answers. This is just a teaser.

Instead of the traditional preview posts looking at positions and players in-depth, we’re taking a personal approach this year. (Besides, there are already excellent previews that we’ll be linking). We’ll be looking at the “3 Things” we’re looking forward to this season. This season starts again with unanswered questions, and we’re excited about getting some of those answers.

Here’s what we’ve been mulling over — you can start thinking about them as well.

#1 – What 3 Things are you looking forward to this season on Offense?
#2 – What 3 Things are you looking forward to this season on Defense?
#3 – Which 3 OSU games are you looking forward to most this season? Which 3 non-OSU games are you looking forward to his season?

Stay tuned!

Cinco dias mas!

This picture may induce deep sighs and painful recollections of the 1998 season. We can’t do anything about that. We hurt just as much as you do. The healing begins in five days.

Dropped Out:

We missed the deadline for last week’s pre-pre-season BlogPoll ballot, but I had some time this evening to put our ballot together, so here it is.

Did you ever hear the story about the blind monkey dart board investment strategy? That’s pretty much the definition of our pre-season BlogPoll. Until we can see some helmets cracking, our educated guess is as good as yours. We aren’t responsible for any investments made on these prognostications. Give us a week or two.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

You didn’t think we’d forget, did you? (7 days)

Greatest moment of OSU football this year.

T-minus 12 and counting (12 days)

We’re out of the teens! We can see the whites of the eyes’ of the single digits. This is getting crazy!

We skipped on the chance for a few of the more recent numbers (but Jeff didn’t shy away from one of them) but we’re back in a big way with #12. What a perfect pair — #16 to #12. Beautiful.

Throwing passes into our hearts forever (16 days)

There can only be one #16 in our list. There is only one #16 in the hearts of millions of Buckeye fans: Craig Krenzel.

Craig Krenzel

Everyone knows Craig was the smartest football player to ever live. Everyone knows he graduated with a triple degree in Molecular Genetics, Quantum Mechanics, and Philosophy (Summa Cum Laude, natch). Here are a few things people may not know about him:

  • He once did a quarter’s worth of Biology 114 homework for Lydell Ross at half-time of the Michigan game
  • He showed Jason Bourne how deadly a copy of Gray’s Anatomy can be.
  • He blinded Trev Alberts with science. And with with beating the Unbeatable Miami Hurricanes.
  • He introduced Brent Musberger to eternal Rapture during the 2002 Purdue game with a single pass.

Does anyone else know of other exploits that we left out?

Pardon the mess.

Blog/site newsWe are preparing to roll out a new look for the Men of the Scarlet and Gray website. Since we are WordPress hacks, this is going to be a brute-force, work-in-progress mess. You might have noticed a different look to the site earlier this afternoon as the sportsMonkey and I were tinkering with different WP themes. Now that we’ve settled on one, we’re going to Buck-ize it. Hopefully everything will be running smoothly (and beautifully) soon. I’m also updating a few of the things behind-the-scenes, including how the RSS feed is served. Nothing should change on either end, but just wanted to let you know we’re working to make the MotSaG experience an enjoyable one.

Please let us know what you think, what ways we could improve things, and general praise. Mostly praise, if you don’t mind.

Update (8/16): We’ve just about wrapped up the renovations are the site. We hope you like it. Besides the new look, we’ve added a way to subscribe to comment threads so you can be notified of new comments. We’ve also souped up the RSS feed so we can do fun stuff with that in the future. We’ll probably make a few cosmetic changes to the site here and there, but this is the new, improved look for Men of the Scarlet and Gray.

Extra special teams (18 days)

The countdown continues (sorry for the drop-off!) with the man with the golden leg (one of them, at least)

Andy Groom

What was it that Coach Tressel said about the punt? Oh yeah.

Let the Brady Quinn era begin

BrownsQuinn and the Browns have agreed to a deal. ‘Bout time.

I know a lot of Buckeye fans don’t hold Brady Quinn in high regard. That’s fine. But now that he’s a Brown, I am giving him a second chance. (See also: Kellen Winslow, Jr; Braylon Edwards; Jamaal Lewis)

See ya! (25 days)

Antonio Pittman

Yeah, I could get used to a pattern like this.
