MotSaG Chat with Cameron Easton

osuHelmetWhen your standing 6-1 and only a freshman, you are going to be noticed.  That is exactly what is happening with Upper Dublin, Pennsylvania Wide Receiver, Cameron Easton.  With interest from the likes of Florida State, Pittsburgh, and New Mexico State, and camp invites from Pittsburgh, Ohio State, Rutgers, and Maryland, Easton is just seeing his recruiting pick up.  He has many visits planned for the summer as well.  “I plan on camping at Pittsburgh, and maybe Rutgers, and Maryland.”  Not bad for just a rising sophomore.  He has very strong interest in Ohio State as well and recently got invited to a camp.  As for why he is highly interested in Ohio State, he says, “I really like the academic prestige and the tradition they have there at Ohio State.”  Easton hopes that he can earn an offer from Ohio State, but says there are things that he can improve on.  “Attention to detail on my routes is a part of my game I’d like to improve.”  If he wants to be a receiver at the next level, he will have to increase his wide receiver skills and become more of a complete receiver, which he will work very hard on.

As for the part of his game that he likes? “I feel like my worth ethic and desire to be the best is a strength of mine.”  Having a good work ethic is good for a freshman because they are the lowest on the totem pole, and need to work harder than most to catch up with the speed of the game.  He wants to give a shout out to Buckeyenation by saying, “Go Bucks!!!”  Easton is a young and talented prospect.  He is already 6-1, ideal for a tall freshman wide receiver.  He can continue to develop his game, and work out at camps to get better at the wide receiver position.  He is a hard worker.  I live in New Jersey and go to school in Philadelphia, so I’m hoping to catch one of his games or camps either at Rutgers camp or a high school game.  He is an intriguing prospect who every buckeyefan should watch over the next few seasons.

MotSag Chat with Todd Sibley JR

osuHelmetIt is now never to early to start recruiting.  Just ask class of 2017 Archbishop Hoban, Ohio Running Back, Todd Sibley.  Standing 5-11 and weighing 200 pounds, he is already gaining interest from some of the powerhouses around the Midwest.  Some of the schools that have been in contact with him are Michigan State, Florida State. Michigan, Purdue, Cincinnati, and Ohio State.  Todd had nothing but good things to say about all of the programs recruiting him including Ohio State, the home state school.  I asked him that because he is from Ohio does that mean he favors the buckeyes or grew up rooting for them and he said, “Growing up, I actually was neutral to Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State.  I did not pick a favorite between them.”  That is interesting because all three of those schools are showing him the most interest in him and because he did not grow up a fan of any of the three in particular, he is open to all of them.

Todd visited Ohio State not too long ago with his buddy and current commit for the 2017 class Danny Clark from Massillon, Ohio.  Danny invited him to the Spring game and had nothing but good things to say about Ohio State visit.  “I love the environment at Ohio State.  Everything was just so well-organized and well put together.  I got to stand on the sidelines which was awesome because we got to see them warm up and I even shook Urban Meyer’s hand which was awesome!”  Danny has also been recruiting him to Ohio State with him, saying that they talk about how amazing it would be to be in the same huddle and to win National Championships together.  Sibley and Clark have a great relationship and Sibley says they talk about wearing the scarlet and gray together.

Todd also made a return trip to Ohio State this past weekend for the Columbus NFTC.  He was not overall happy with his performance.  He said that he started off kind of slow but really turned it up later in the camp.  He said that he just wants to improve his game and get better.  He wants to improve his vision on the field, including his peripheral vision, citing it caused miss opportunities on the field.  His footwork also needs improvement.  He is a very tough critic on himself, but said that his strengths are the love of the game and his ability to compete.  Monday through Thursday he works hard on preparation for Friday nights saying, “I am always well prepared for Friday nights.”

As for Todd Sibley off the field.  Do not expect him to be sitting down, ever.  He does track and loves to workout and exercise.  He also mentioned how he does not see himself getting a job sitting own because he just loves to be active.  I guess football would be a good job then for Todd.  If you watch Todd’s highlights he is a great prospect.  He will only get bigger, faster, and stronger.  He loves all of the schools that are recruiting him and is open to anything in his recruitment.  Having Danny Clark on your side, already recruiting him for the class, is not a bad thing to have.  I asked him what he would say to Buckeye Nation and he replied with, “I am going to work hard for that offer! Go Bucks!”  Todd Sibley JR is a prospect that every recruiting fan should watch, especially Ohio State fans.

Keion Joyner- One of Nation’s Top Players in the Class of 2016

When 247 ranks you in the top 5 of their initial class rankings for your class, then you must be pretty special.  Keion Joyner, from Havelock, North Carolina, is that and more.  Joyner is rated the number four overall prospect, number one OLB prospect, and number one prospect from the state of North Carolina.  Not a bad gig for the 6-3, 210 pound sophomore.  I asked him how it felt to be so highly rated in the 247sports rankings of the 2016 class and he said, “It feels excellent.  It just shows that hard work does pay off. Just an excellent feeling.”  Joyner was also very humble to being one of the most highly ranked prospects in the nation.  He knows there is a lot to his game that people love but also things that he could improve on as well.  He thinks that his strengths are reading the plays and just his overall instincts of the game.  That is key if he wants to play right away at the college level.   There are also aspects to his game he wants to improve like building his strength and speed in order to prepare him for the strong players at the college game, and also the speed of the game at the college level.

Right now, Joyner has a top 3 of Alabama, LSU, and Auburn, but does include Ohio State as risers on the list.  He loves many things about Ohio State.  One of those things is the play of the linebackers in the scheme.  “Watching Ohio State when I was younger, they were just hard hitters!  They just always hit the players with the ball hard!  I also love the scheme that they play in.”  To impress one of the top players country with the way they hit and the scheme is important because it gives the player a chance to see himself in the scheme and defense.  Next in Joyner’s recruitment is a bunch of visits.  He plans to make a Southern swing to LSU, Alabama, and Auburn to visit his top 3.  He also plans on visiting Ohio State sometime next month.  A decision is not likely anytime soon as he wants to commit sometime during or after his senior season of football.  He sure does have his options though.

Keion Joyner is also a singer! He loves to sing and also wants to learn how to play the guitar.  So when football is over, look out for his albums on the shelves of your local K-Mart.  Wait, this is the 21st century, look for the album on itunes. Joyner was such a nice person talking to him on the phone.  He had workouts, but still took time out of his day to speak to me on the phone, which I respect.  It will be tough for Ohio State to pull him from the SEC country, but if he visits Ohio State next month and has a good visit, then I think they can be right up there with LSU, Alabama, and Auburn.  Keion Joyner is a prospect that every Ohio State fan should watch over the next couple of seasons on the recruiting trail.

Justin Layne Interview with MotSaG

When your teammate is one of, if not, the best, players in the state, and is also graduating a year before you, you can often times get over shadowed.  That is not the case with 2016 WR Justin Layne out of Benedictine  High School, in Ohio.  I’m sure everybody that follows recruiting knows Layne’s teammate and good friend, Jerome Baker.  Justin Layne is able to get out of the spotlight of Baker and to make a name for himself by the way he plays the game.  He holds offers from some of the top programs around the Midwest including, Michigan State, *ichigan, WVU, Miami (FL) and Pitt.  Although he does not have an Ohio State offer, it is one that he really wants and the offer would shoot Ohio State up the list right away.  “The Ohio State offer is the one that I want the most.  If they offered, they would be right up there on the top, probably alongside Michigan State,” Layne says.

Because he does not currently hold an offer, it is difficult for him to put Ohio State high on the list.  He is working to change that though.  “They told me they want to evaluate me more and to build a stronger relationship,” Layne told me.  So that they can evaluate him more, he is attending the Columbus NFTC, this weekend, and will also attend the Friday Night Lights Camp in July.  This will give the coaches an opportunity to further evaluate him as a player and even a person.  I asked Justin what it is like to have Jerome considering Ohio State very seriously and if that had any pull in his decision and he said, “I do not know.  We are just focused on a State Championship right now.”

Besides football, did you know that Justin loves to play the guitar?  He also loves to draw as well, (something I give him a lot of credit for because I still draw people as stick figures).  So if football in the long run does not work out, maybe he can become the next Hendrix or Picasso.    When asked what he would say to buckeye fans across the nation he said, “Go Bucks!”  Justin was such a nice and humble person.  When I talked to him he was actually just returning back from summer workouts, so he is already determined for the season.  He wants an Ohio State offer really bad, and to me, if they offered they would be the favorite right up there with Michigan State.

MotSaG Chat With Chris Agyemang

Standing 6-3 and 208 pounds, it is easy to see why Chris Agyemang can play multiple positions on the football field.  For his high school football team, he played LB, DE, and TE.  He is athletic enough to run with receivers in the slot and bat passes down, and then outrun linebackers and catch the ball when the ball changes possession.  While originally a 2015 recruit,  he is doing a repeat year and is transferring to the 2016 class.  He is also changing schools for academic reasons.  His grades are not bad, he told me, he just wanted a better challenge in the classroom.  He will be attending Proctor Academy in the fall, in New Hampshire.  Lots of schools have been showing interest including, Bryant, UPenn, (hey right up the street from my school), and Yale.  Camps that he will be attending this summer include the blue chip football academy, UPenn, UMass, and Bryant, and a few more which he is still trying to figure out.

Chris knows exactly what he is looking for in a school as well.  He told me that academics are more important than football.  “I look for the academics first than football second. I know football isn’t going to last forever so getting a degree is crucial for me. Next thing i look for is being able to help a team get better in any way I can!”  I always love when recruits care more about academics than football.  It is good to care about football as well, but you’re a STUDENT-athlete.  Student.

There is one offer that Chris really wants and that is an Ohio State offer.  He had good things to say about Ohio State, saying, “ I love the tradition Ohio State has to offer! They are a big time school and have produced BIG time players! Great fan base as well! Gameday atmosphere must be crazy!”   Chris knows that he has a lot of work to do in order to earn that Buckeye offer.  Although he does not have much interest from Ohio State right now, it has not discouraged him.  “I got to grind hard everyday for 365. An offer from OSU would be very special to me. But like I said I’m going to do what I can control and that is working hard on and off the field. Patience is a virtue.”  He has the right mindset to earn that offer.  He loves Ohio State and even offered this to Buckeye fans, “Buckeye nation Waddup!! Chris Agyemang, class of 2016 if you don’t hear from me this year wait till next year! Grind time! Check out my tape!”

Hopefully, the extra year in school will do wonders for Chris.  While he is getting lower tier interest from some ivy league schools, he is determined for that Ohio State offers and the determined ones are the hardest working.  It will be interesting to see how Chris’ recruitment develops, especially with that extra year to get bigger and stronger.

MotSaG Chat with 2017 Athlete JaCoby Stevens

With the way the recruiting world is today, it is no wonder why everybody already knows JaCoby Stevens’ name.  The class of 2017 athlete, from Nashville, Tennessee, already holds offers from some of the top schools in the nation. The offer sheet includes the likes of Ohio State, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, and UGA.  Impressive for a kid who just finished his freshman season right?  While he lists himself as an athlete he said that, “As it gets closer to 2017, is when I’ll know what position I will be playing.”  He retold me the story of how Ohio State offered him while he was at Summer workouts.  “I was at summer workouts and Coach McDaniel came to me and said you have an offer from Ohio State.  I was elated!”  While he was beyond excited for the OSU offer, he also said that he needs to get his head out of the clouds and go to work.

He does not have any favorites because his recruitment is just starting to pick up some steam.  He has a couple of crystal balls to Tennessee so I asked him why people think that Tennessee is the favorite right now and he said, “Everybody around me was going to Tennessee so I guess people just assume that I am too.  I’m open to every school though.”  Ohio State, is near the top of the list.  He had nothing but good things to say about Ohio State.  “I like OSU, they are big on their tradition.  I love that they compete for and win conference championships and the success that they have had in the BCS is just amazing.”  He also loves his main recruiter Coach Hinton, saying that Hinton has a good sense of humor and that he, along with the rest of the coaches on Urban Meyer’s staff, are just being real with him.  He has a good relationship with the Ohio State Staff which is only going to get stronger as his recruitment intensifies.

As for what is next in Stevens’ recruitment?  Next weekend he will be going to the Bayou, and visiting LSU.  He wants to visit Columbus over the summer and is very excited about that visit.  When asked if he could say something to Ohio State fans, he said, “Go Bucks!!”  Stevens has an impressive offer sheet for just a freshman and because he is only a freshman, he will have plenty of opportunities to visit the schools he wants to visit.   I like that he already has a strong relationship with coach Hinton so early in the recruiting process.  I think that can only spell good things for Ohio State. It will be interesting to see his recruitment develop over the next several years and is one that every Buckeye fan should watch going forward.

MotSaG Chat with Austin Clark

4star_recruit_iconosuHelmetAustin Clark is a top Offensive Tackle coming out of the 2015 class. He is 6’6 and weighs around 296. Clark is from Lexington, Virginia in Rockbridge County. Austin is a very highly rated Offensive Tackle in his class. 247 Sports has him has a four star and a top ten player coming out of Virginia. He has many offers from schools such as Tennessee, South Carolina, Ohio State, Penn State, Virginia, Clemson and Virginia Tech.

Austin plans on committing June 12th and plans to narrow his list down before his commitment. There is high interest with South Carolina and Tennessee but the Buckeyes are still in the hunt. Keep reading below to learn about Austin.

905556

Andrew: How has the recruiting process been?

Austin: It’s been going great. I’m going to be making my decision on June 12th.

Andrew: What schools are showing interest?

Austin: All the schools in my top 7 are showing interest. Including Ohio State. I’m planning on narrowing it down to a top 4 the weekend before the 12th.

Andrew: What schools are recruiting you the hardest?

Austin: Right now I’d say Ohio State, Tennessee and South Carolina are recruiting me the hardest.

Andrew: How was your Ohio State visit?

Austin: It was great. I’d been up for camp and a game before but it was my first time getting to see the facilities and sit down with the coaches face to face. I was very impressed.

Andrew: What did the coaches tell you?

Austin: Coach Meyer and Coach Warriner’s message to me was that they love how I play and they want me to be a buckeye.

Andrew: Any upcoming visits?

Austin: Right now the only visit I really have planned is South Carolina on the 31st of May.

Andrew: How would you describe your game?

Austin: I’m a physical run blocking type. But I can also be physical in pass protection. One thing I’m not satisfied unless I get a pancake every play haha.

Andrew: Is there anything you want to improve on?

Austin: The thing I’ve been working to improve is stopping the speed rush in pass protection. I’m pretty good but you can always be better.

Andrew: What are your max outs?

Austin: My squat is 550. My power clean is 315 and my bench is 310.

Andrew: Is there anything you want people to know?

Austin: I’ll be graduating early and wherever I go I’m going to work my butt off to be the best I can be.

MotSag Chat with 2016 TE Jake Hausmann

Recruiting the tight end position has been difficult for Urban Meyer and staff.  They swung and missed with Geisicki, as we all know, who committed to Penn State.  They did land a recruit as part of the 2013 class in Marcus Baugh, but that has been, interesting?  One of the nation’s best tight ends for the class of 2016, is right in their own backyard, in Cincinnati, Moeller’s Jake Hausmann.  Holding offers from some of the strongest programs around the midwest and nation, including, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Louisville, and Kentucky, he has many options to choose from. Being from Ohio, and having both parents go to Ohio State, and currently having a sibling at OSU, it is easy to see why he was excited about the Buckeye offer. “The day before they offered, my coach told me they were coming to visit me at school and that they were gonna offer.  I was so excited, I couldn’t sleep the night before.  Coach Coombs came to my school and offered me a scholarship to Ohio State, I was so excited!” Hausmann talked about how close his relationship with coach Coombs is.  He talks to coach Coombs a lot and even talks to coach Meyer directly also.  In fact, the other day when I messaged Jake for this interview, he told me he had just gotten off the phone with coach Meyer and coach Coombs.  Not a bad day I guess.

As for why he loves Ohio State? “The coaches are just awesome, I love the relationship I have with them and they are recruiting me the hardest.  The tight end was not used that much last season, but I think that will change this season because they have some playmakers at that position.  Ohio State is also just everything I’m looking for in a school.”As for what is next on the Hausmann recruiting trail?  He is attending the Columbus NFTC on Sunday and then going to stay overnight and tour the campus, meet the coaches, and all the jazz.   He also wanted to say to buckeye fans, “Go Bucks!”

Jake Hausmann is already one of my favorite players to cover in the nation.  He is an amazing football player, but truly an even better person.  He was honest, sincere, and really just wanted to help with the interview.  I think that the buckeyes are in a good position for his recruitment, but he has no leaders.  But, with all that he has told me, I think it would be hard for him to turn down a chance to play for his favorite school, Ohio State.

MotSaG Chat with TaJonn Nickelson

Tajonn Nickelson, a junior from Massachusetts, is a versatile athlete playing multiple positions on the football field.  To show you how versatile he is: his high school team plagued by injuries,  was in need of offensive and defensive linemen.  So, Nickelson standing just 5-10. took the opportunity to showcase his athleticism, by playing both offensive and defensive tackle.  Yes, a 5-10 offensive tackle is not the most ideal OT size, but Nickelson will do whatever it takes for the team to win.  He was kind enough to sit down for some questions with us.

What colleges have shown you the most interest?

TaJonn: Bryant, UMass, Sacred Heart.

Are you visiting any schools over the summer and if so, what schools?

TaJonn:  have not planned any unoffical visits yet. But I will be visiting some schools but I don’t know yet.

What camps are you attending this summer?

TaJonn: UConn, UMass,Assumption College (D2), Towson, & Liberty.

Why are you highly interested in Ohio State?

TaJonn: I’m highly interested  in Ohio St because I like the tradition, coaches and just the school in general.

What position do you want to play in college?

TaJonn:  I plan on playing defensive back or slot receiver in college.

Current measurables? Height, weight, any sparq numbers?

MotSaG Chat with Kevin Mensah JR

This article was written by Michael Rockstedt @Mike_Rockstedt the newest member of the MotSag team.

Kevin Mensah JR is just getting started with his recruitment. The 5-8, 171 pound freshman from Massachusetts, is well, just a freshman. But, as we know with the recruitment of Danny Clark, it is never too early for recruiting. He has a lot of interest from schools as just a freshman and even that is difficult to do. He told me that he loves Ohio State and that they are in his top 5. To have a top 5 with Ohio State in it as a freshman is a pretty neat thing. He also qualified for the NUC Combine King National Championship, something he is very excited for. Keep a watch on him as his recruitment develops more and more as I think he is a prospect to watch for the future. Kevin was kind enough to sit down for an interview and answer a couple of questions for MOTSAG…
