Damon Arnette Becomes Commit #25

Things are going to be crazy the next 36 hours. We are quickly approaching NSD and for recruiting fans the greatest day of the year. Tonight a recruit that was committed elsewhere has flipped to the good guys and joins Urban Meyer’s stacked 2015 class. He may be the first or last to drop for OSU this week and that is why recruiting fans love this time of year. So let’s take a look at the newest member of Buckeye Nation shall we….

Damon Arnette is a 6’2″ 185 lbs three star Cornerback from Ft Lauderdale, Florida. Arnette who was a South Carolina Commit until today flipped to Ohio State and took the spot vacated by former OSU commit Carlton Davis. Damon chose OSU over USC and Michigan. Damon is a big CB with decent hips and speed. He comes from a Florida pipeline school for OSU in St Thomas Aquinas. Chris Ash and Kerry Coombs will need to develop Damon more and get him up to speed but he has potential galore.

Commitment Times and Predictions For Top Remaining OSU Targets

Well we are about 40 hours until the strange thing of Recruits using a fax machine in 2015 to send a signed piece of paper that Mark Pantoni will then file and tweet out as we find out who is in and who is out for the 2015 recruiting class. So let’s take a look at the guys OSU is still chasing and when we will know for sure one way or another where they are heading.

Isaiah Prince- A 6’6″ 275 lbs Four Star OL ranked #107 in the country. Isaiah is pretty much down to OSU or Maryland his home state school. Things are looking good for OSU here. I would say OSU has a 51% chance of landing Prince.

Commitment Time- Weds at 9:30 AM EST

Prediction- Ohio State

Porter Gustin- A 6’5″ 245 lbs Five Star Athlete ranked #28 in the country. Porter is a stud athlete that can play on either side of the ball. He is down to OSU or USC. Porter was a USC lock for months but a late visit from Urban Meyer and final weekend OV has OSU in the thick of it. I would say OSU has a 45% chance of landing Gustin.

Commitment Time- Tuesday at 1:00 PM EST.

Prediction- Ohio State

Damon Arnette- A 6’2″ 185 lbs Three Star CB ranked #646 in the country. Damon is down to sticking with South Carolina or flipping to Ohio State or Michigan. He took a late visit to OSU and enjoyed his visit a lot. OSU chances I believe are at about 66%.

Commitment Time- Monday at 8:30 PM EST.

Prediction- Ohio State

KJ Hill- A 6’0″ 188 lbs Four Star WR ranked #152 in the country. KJ is down to Ohio State, Arkansas, and Bama. OSU has 90% shot at landing KJ.

Commitment Time- Wednesday at 10:00 AM EST.

Prediction- Ohio State

Mike Weber- A 5’10” 220 lbs Four Star RB ranked #78 in the country. Mike is a former Michigan Commit who flipped to OSU back in December. He has been pursued heavily by Harbaugh since he arrived and things have gone silent. This will come down to OSU or UM in a battle of rivals. OSU chance of landing Weber is 50%.

Commitment Time- Wednesday between 10am and Noon EST.

Prediction- Ohio State

Torrance Gibson- A 6’4″ 200 lns Four Star QB ranked #72 in the country. Gibson committed to OSU a few months ago. We knew at that time he would take all his visits and he did. LSU and Auburn are the 2 biggest threats here. OSU has a 33% chance of landing Torrance.

Commitment Time- Wednesday at 8:00 AM EST.

Prediction- Ohio State

As we get more info I will update this list. As of right now if you dont see a recruits name on here eitehr they are already 100% committed to OSU or they have taken OSU out of their places they may choose. Needless to say the next few days will be exciting and nail biting. Sit back and relax and let the process work itself out. Trust in this staff to get the guys they need and want.

Rush to Judgment

We as fans cringe when we hear players from our favorite teams make it into the news for allegedly doing something bad. We Buckeye fans have lived through a dark time with Tattoo Gate and in recent years since the Urban Meyer hire, some players gain national attention for possible indiscretions. Since Meyer has joined the Buckeyes as their head coach there was a ton of criticism from national pundits, like the all to infamous Clay Travis, blasting Meyer always claiming his players were out of control. Let’s not even talk about the hack jobs who blame Urban for the Hernandez situation. Remember the whole Carlos Hyde situation and the national media outrage that Urban is helping cover up the “crime”.

Last night Action19 News out of Cleveland, Ohio ran a story that Carl Monday investigated. First off as a Clevelander seeing that man in a trench coat with a microphone walking around is never good because he seems to uncover some stuff. Carl Monday found the dash cam of the Jackson Township car that was involved with the Devin Smith car accident investigation. I won’t go into all the details, that’s why you should watch their video they ran last night on it, but to sum it up basically it seems like sometimes maybe an officer has an agenda of his own or even (this is what I’m going with) they make mistakes cause you know they are like you and me human.

Just remember all the haters who want to say that Urban is always covering up his players indiscretions, there is more than meets the eye and on several occasions now the video doesn’t lie. Stop rushing to judgment to get some web hits haters and Buckeye fans stop giving them the satisfaction by clicking on the bait.

Funny thing about this story was and ironically not very well known and after seeing the video for good reason it wasn’t.

The 2014 OSU Seniors’ Theme? “Redemption Song”

It was tremendous attending the celebration in Ohio Stadium on January 24th, 2015, with approximately 45,000-50,000 other Ohio State fans. Yes, it was cold; about 27 degrees. It was not as cold as the other national championship celebration I attended in January 2003; that celebration had more snow and was several degrees below zero. Yes, the players did join in a singing of “Carmen Ohio” at the conclusion; there was no Cie Grant moment in this celebration.

While I sat with my friend Bob during the celebration, my mind could not help but think of the senior class who signed letters of intent with Ohio State in February 2011. Twenty-four players signed with Ohio State in February 2011, yet only seventeen remained by January 2015. Fortunately for Ohio State fans, a few of these individuals have eligibility remaining to play for Ohio State in 2015 (Chase Farris, Joel Hale, Bryce Haynes, Cardale Jones, Braxton Miller, Ron Tanner, and Nick Vannett).

While “Carmen Ohio” was naturally performed at the national championship celebration, another song has crossed my mind as I reflect upon the careers of the players who signed in 2011 ~ Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song”.

“But my hand was made strong
By the ‘and of the Almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly…”

My first experience watching Braxton Miller as an Ohio State Buckeye was in the 2011 Ohio State Spring Game. Enrolled as a true freshman, there were questions as to whether Miller would be the quarterback during the first five games, as returning starter Terrelle Pryor served a five game suspension, along with Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel. Little did anyone know that the 2011 Spring Game would be the last time Coach Tressel would coach Miller in any capacity.

Memorial Day 2011 dawned with the bombshell that Coach Tressel, under siege by the national media and members of the university power struggle, resigned as head coach. Former Ohio State defensive lineman and longtime Ohio State assistant coach Luke Fickell was promoted to head coach for the 2011 season, and possibly beyond.

While 2011 was a disappointing season for Ohio State and Coach Fickell, optimism for these players came into Columbus with the hiring of Urban Meyer as head football coach on November 28, 2011. In less than one full year, many of these players had experienced signing to play for one head coach, suffering through a losing season under an interim coach, and now were going to play for a coach that had not recruited the majority of them (Coach Meyer had recruited Braxton Miller while Coach Meyer was at Florida, if you recall). Even with this optimistic turn of events related to Coach Meyer’s arrival, it was only natural that a few of the players decided to look elsewhere to continue their football and educational careers.

None but ourselves can free our minds…”

The 2012 season under Coach Meyer resulted in a perfect 12-0 season, yet no rewards were possible as the program was under a bowl ban. The 2013 season began in tremendous fashion, yet collapsed down the stretch with a loss to Michigan State in The 2013 B1G Championship Game, and followed up with a loss to Clemson in the 2014 Orange Bowl. The 2014 season, after three years, would prove to be the last opportunity to leave a positive legacy in the archives of Ohio State football for several of these players who began in 2011.

Yes, “Carmen Ohio” was on my mind, along with 45,000-50,000 other members of the Buckeye faithful on January 24th, 2015, in Ohio Stadium. But I will admit this other tune will also be on my mind and in my heart as I will fondly think back to the magical season of 2014, and to several of the Buckeyes who helped to make it that way, beginning back in February 2011.

Four Star Recruit Decommits From Ohio State (Per Report)

247sports is reporting this morning that Carlton Davis is no longer planning on being a Buckeye. While this news is not shocking in the least it is news. Carlton Davis committed last summer in a surprise announcement and instantly said he would still take visits and his recruitment wasnt over. He has flirted with many teams since then and never seemed really a part of this class. Here is some of what 247sports is reporting…

Confirmed by multiple sources, 247Sports has learned that Miami (FL) Norland DB Carlton Davis will not be signing with Ohio State when National Signing Day comes around next Wednesday, and it now looks like Auburn is sitting comfortably in the driver’s seat to land the 4-star prospect.

Buckeyes Recruiting Roll Continues

With the upcoming National Signing Day only 8 days away the 2015 class is starting to come to an end. There is room for a few more guys and a few more surprises. Today Urban flipped a local kid who was previously committed to Kentucky in 2015 DE Da’Von Hamilton.

DaVon Hamilton is a 6’3″ 285 lbs Three Star Defensive Tackle from Pickerington, Ohio. DaVon is a local kid who had to go through the entire process trying to earn an offer from his hometown school and found a way to do it just 10 days before NSD. He went home talked with his family and mentors and made a decision that was best for him. He decommitted for the second time (was initially committed to Pitt) and decided to go to OSU where they have a position of need that he fills wonderfully. He will likely Red Shirt next year and work in the weight room and get bigger and better.

Buckeyes Land Another Highly Rated Recruit: Five Star 2017 Offensive Tackle Josh Myers

The Ohio State coaches have landed yet another commit from a highly rated recruit today. Five star 2017 offensive tackle Josh Myers has officially committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes. The 2017 recruit is from Miamisburg, Ohio, stands at 6’6″ and weighs 290 pounds. Myers becomes the four commitment of the 2017 class for the Buckeyes. That makes three five-star players and one four star player in the 2017 class, which is absolutely remarkable. According to 24/7 sports, he is the third highest rated player overall, the top ranked offensive tackle overall and the number one player overall in the state of Ohio in the 2017 class.

Myers knew his mind was made up once he saw the Ohio State-Michigan game in-person. Myers said this to 24/7 Sports:

“I think my mind was probably made up for sure after the Ohio State-Michigan game,” Myers said. “That was what did it in for me. That was a great experience. I thought I connected with that coaching staff after the game and I felt in my heart it was the right place for me.

Myers said he felt a deep connection with offensive coordinator Ed Warinner, who recruited him to Columbus along with tight ends/fullback coach Tim Hinton. He really complimented the coaching staff and was impressed by how great of a team the Buckeyes have. Myers also said more than anything it felt great to finally announce it to everybody.

Myers comes from a family that is very talented athletically. His father Brad Myers was an offensive lineman at Kentucky from 1984 to 1987. His mother Julie Myers was a basketball player at the University of Dayton and his older brother Zach is also an offensive lineman who signed with Kentucky in 2012. Myers had a plethora of offers from other schools that included Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Kentucky, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee and West Virginia.

2016 Four Star Tight End Jake Hausmann Commits to Ohio State

The Ohio State Buckeyes have added another great player to their 2016 recruiting class. 2016 four star tight end Jake Hausmann has officially committed to the Buckeyes. He is the sixth player added to the 2016 class, making him the fifth offensive player of the group. Hausmann is from Cincinnati, Ohio, stands at 6’5″ and weighs 235 pounds. The 2016 recruit is the third highest rated tight end nationally and seventh overall in the state of Ohio in the 2016 class.

Hausmann had several offers from other schools, including Georgia, Michigan, Florida State, Notre Dame, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Cincinnati and many more. The Archbishop Moeller product was recruited by Kerry Coombs and Tim Hinton. Many were worried when Urban Meyer took over that tight ends would be underutilized, but he has certainly proved that wrong and Hausmann is another big body for Ohio State’s plethora of quarterbacks to throw to in a few years. Hausmann announced his decision to become a Buckeye via his Twitter page:
