Because Vernon Gholston’s pythons are SICK.
Yeah, I’ve been waiting a long time to use that joke (h/t to Sylvester-Yon Rambo). 50 days to go.
We’re fifty one days closer… than we were before… today. Or something That really doesn’t make sense, does it? Sorry.

So I chose Anthony Schlegel because if the things we’ve heard about his *ahem* relationship with his wife are true, then #51 deserves our utmost respect and admiration (Zeke knows what I’m talking about).
Today we’re going old school with the countdown — #53, Randy Gradishar:

Randy played before most of us were twinkles in our daddy’s eyes, but Gradishar was a defensive force for the Buckeyes during the early 70s. (Unfortunately he went on to play in the NFL for the loathsome Denver Broncos, but it was during the pre-Elway years, so we won’t hold that against him.)
Woody Hayes said he was the, “best linebacker he ever coached.” Quite the compliment. The Ohio State end-of-season award for most outstanding linebacker is known as the Randy Gradishar Award.
To read more about Randy, check out his wikipedia entry.
Yeah, so we missed 55. Our bad. We’re back with the countdown, though. Here’s Mr. Anderson, #54.
You might not know this, but Tim Anderson was a High School Wrestling Champion. What’s that? They mentioned it every time he made a play? Huh. I hadn’t noticed.
Wrestling season is still a long way away. Football isn’t. 54 days to go.
Darion Scott hurt a lot of people. How hurting are you for this season to start? It won’t be long!
(I may have jumped the gun a little early with our first countdown post, but I think we’re on track now. Have any suggestions? Let us know!)

Mike Kudla would like to remind you that he once caught Laurence Maroney from behind (behind!) and threw him to the turf like a rag doll.
He’d also like to remind you that it’s just 57 days until kickoff!
As you may have noticed, we’ve added the Countdown to Kickoff on the side bar so we can all start counting down the days until that first beautiful day in September when we can bask once again in the glorious light that only college football can provide. The healing can finally begin.
We’re also going to start a little daily post of the countdown. It won’t be as elaborate as the one the guys over a Burnt Orange Nation are doing, but it will be fun nonetheless. That should start up in a day or two.
We also hope to ramp up the content as we begin to look at the 2007 football Buckeyes, similar to what we did last year. New faces and holes to be filled, so we’ll have a lot to talk about.
There’s also that NBA Draft thing going on, so we’ll be following that, wishing well for the former Buckeyes that will be doing their basketball thing at the highest level.
According to a dispatch article today, the first two football games of the season will be televised on the new Big Ten Network.
The BTN has not yet reached agreements with the local cable providers.
The schedule for the 2007 season is being finalized, and all of OSU’s away games (except Michigan) will occur at night.
The Buckeyes will visit Minnesota (Sept. 29th), Purdue (Oct 6th), and Penn State (Oct 27th). Each game will have an 8 p.m. kickoff.
I understand that the Buckeyes are a heavy TV draw, hence the increasing number of night games over the past few years. But speaking as a fan, I dislike night games. Granted, if they occur once in a while, it can be an exciting experience. But night games are for high-schoolers, not college football players.
And if having three night games in a season seems excessive; having all three of them on the road borders on unfair.
Still, the season looks exciting. OSU begins a home-and-home with PAC-10 foe Washington, and Tressel’s kryptonite (Wisconsin) is finally back on the OSU schedule.

Vernon Gholston has big arms GIGANTIC PIPES
Am I unhealthily obsessed with #50’s arms? Yes.
Would I marry one of them? If I wasn’t already married, yes.
Which one? The right one. We’d live happily in one of his thighs.
Taken from SI’s Top 25 prospects for the 2008 NFL Draft, which includes two Buckeyes, Gholston at #18 and Laurinaitis #20. It also has Chad Henne at #6, which is… Interesting. He’s going to struggle mightily next year if he doesn’t have anyone to throw the ball to.
Update: We have been Everyday’ed. Thanks for the link, Orson.
