Mike Adams (OT) (2008-11)- Started at TE for the Steelers in week 10. Adams was in on two tight sets but didn’t record a catch. It’ll be interesting to see if the Steelers continue to use Adams the same way moving forward.

Will Allen (SS) (2000-03)- Recorded 1 total tackle and played in nearly half the defensive snaps for the Steelers. He didn’t play at all last week so this is a big step up in playing time. Allen’s familiarity with the Steeler’s defense helps.

Baltimore Ravens

John Simon (LB) (2009-12)- Active in week 9 for the Ravens in their loss to the Cleveland Browns. Simon did not see the field and his playing time has been sporadic all year.

Cincinnati Bengals

Mike Nugent (K) (2001-04)- Converted 2/2 on field goals with a long of 54 yards and went 2/2 on PAT’s as well. The Bengals lost to the Dolphins in overtime on Thursday night.

Dane Sanzenbacher (WR) (2007-10)- Didn’t record any statistics but was targeted once in week 9. AJ Green was targeted 19 times which can a big reason why.

Indianapolis Colts

Daniel “Boom” Herron (RB) (2008-09, 2011)- Recorded 1 total tackle on special teams for the Colts in week 9. Herron’s role on this team is going to be on special teams unless the Colts sustain some more injuries in the backfield.

New England Patriots

Nate Ebner (DB) (2008-11)-Recorded 2 total tackles in the Patriots week 9 blowout victory over the Steelers. Ebner continues to see a lot of playing time on special teams.

New York Jets

Santonio Holmes (WR) (2003-05)- Holmes is still nursing an injured hamstring and didn’t play yet again in week 9. The Jets have just one more game until their bye week and they’ve considered shutting Holmes down through the bye week.

Nick Mangold (C) (2002-05)- Started at Center for the Jets in week 9 against the New Orleans Saints. While the Jet’s offense was outgained by the Saints, they managed to make the big plays down the stretch. Mangold helped lead the Jets to 5.8 yards per play.

Oakland Raiders

Terrelle Pryor (QB) (2008-10)- Went 22-for-41 for 288 yards, zero touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Pryor did rush for 94 yards but the Raiders were run over by the Eagles in week 9. The defense certainly didn’t bail Pryor and the offense out.

Chimdi Chekwa (CB) (2007-10)- Recorded 2 total tackles for the Raiders in week 9. Chekwa hasn’t thrown up many stats this season so this was a good site to see. The Raiders were absolutely run over by the Eagles offense yielding 7 touchdowns passes to QB Nick Foles.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Cameron Heyward (DE) (2007-10)- Recorded 5 total tackles, 1 sack and 1 tackle for loss. Heyward also recorded 2 QB hits on Tom Brady. While Heyward had a good statistical game, the Steelers defense was manhandled and gave up over 600 total yards.

Will Allen (SS) (2000-03)- Allen was picked up by the Steelers a few weeks after the Cowboys cut him. He didn’t record any statistics or playing time in week 9, but with his history on the Steelers, he certainly will in the coming weeks.

download (1)

Carolina Panthers

Ted Ginn Jr. (WR) (2004-2006)-Recorded 1 reception for 10 yards in the Panthers victory over the Falcons in week 9. For whatever reason, Ginn was not as involved as he has been in the passing game.

Ben Hartsock (TE) (1999-03)- Didn’t record any statistics for the Panthers in week 9. Hartsock played well but just doesn’t get the receiving opportunities fellow TE Greg Olsen gets.

Detroit Lions

Rob Sims (OL) (2002-05)- The Detroit Lions had a bye in week 9. They will resume play in week 10.

Green Bay Packers

A.J. Hawk (LB) (2002-05)- Recorded 8 total tackles in the Packers Monday night loss to the Bears. Hawk was the team’s second leading tackler.

Ryan Pickett (DT) (1998-00)-Recorded 2 total tackles for the Packers in their Monday night loss. Pickett continues to eat up blockers in the middle for guys like Hawk to run around free.

New Orleans Saints

Malcolm Jenkins (CB) (2005-08)- Was inactive against the New York Jets in week 9 due to a leg injury. He will look to return in week 10 against the Cowboys.

New York Giants

Johnathan Hankins (DT) (2010-12)- The New York Giants enjoyed their bye in week 9. They will continue their play in week 10.

Philadelphia Eagles

Kurt Coleman (DB) (2006-09)- Recorded 4 total tackles in the Eagles week 9 victory over the Raiders. Coleman saw some snaps on special teams and in the secondary. Some of the playing time may be contributed to the lopsided victory the Eagles enjoyed.

Washington Redskins

Doug Worthington (DE) (2007-09)- Has been placed on the IR (bicep) for the remainder of the year.

St. Louis Rams

James Laurinaitis (LB) (2005-09)- Recorded 9 total tackles and 1 sack for the Rams in their week 9 loss to the Titans. Laurinaitis played in every defensive snap for the Rams. As usual, he was the defensive leader for the Rams.

Cincinnati Bengals

Mike Nugent (K) (2001-04)- Didn’t record any field goals in the Bengals week 8 victory over the Jets. Nugent did convert seven extra points in the 49-7 rout.

Dane Sanzenbacher (WR) (2007-10)- Recorded 2 catches for 18 yards in the week 8 victory over the Jets. Sanzenbacher continues to see some time in the slot for the Bengals. If the Bengals offense continues to play like they did this week, Sanzenbacher will continue to post statistics.

Houston Texans

Devier Posey (WR) (2008-11)- The Texans enjoyed a week 8 bye. They will resume play in week 9.

Indianapolis Colts

Daniel “Boom” Herron (RB) (2008-09, 2011)- The Colts enjoyed a week 8 bye. They will resume play in week 9.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Mike Brewster (C) (2008-11)- Continues to be a back-up across multiple positions on the offensive line. Brewster has yet to start a game for Jacksonville this season but it wouldn’t be a bad idea for the Jaguars to start playing some of their younger players. It continues to shock me that Brewster has not seen more playing yet this season. The Jaguars continue to be winless and this time they had to go across the pond (England) to lose.

Denver Broncos

Justin Boren (G) (2009-10)- Didn’t record any statistics or playing time for the Broncos in week 8. Boren is currently on the injured reserve. If he gets healthy, it will be difficult for him to see any playing time unless the offensive line becomes decimated with injuries over the course of the season.

Miami Dolphins

Brian Hartline (WR) (2006-08)- Recorded 4 receptions for 37 yards in the Dolphins week 8 loss to the Patriots. Hartline was targeted 6 times, which was third most on the Dolphins. Mike Wallace and Charles Clay were the only two Dolphins who recorded more targets.

Austin Spitler (LB) (2006-09)- Recorded 1 total tackle for the Dolphins in week 8. This marked the return of Spitler. He’s been in and out of the lineup much of the season.

New England Patriots

Nate Ebner (DB) (2008-11)- Recorded 4 total tackles for the Patriots in their week 8 victory over the Dolphins. Ebner saw some time in the injury plagued New England secondary. This was his first playing time of the season other than special teams. Ebner definitely took advantage of the opportunity.

New York Jets

Santonio Holmes (WR) (2003-05)- Holmes is still nursing an injured hamstring and didn’t play yet again in week 8. The Jets have just two more games until their bye week and they’ve considered shutting Holmes down through the bye week.

Nick Mangold (C) (2002-05)- Started at Center for the Jets in week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Mangold and the whole offensive line struggled for much of the game against the Bengals. They didn’t open up many running lanes and left QB Geno Smith in some tough situations.

Oakland Raiders

Terrelle Pryor (QB) (2008-10)- Pryor went 10-for-19 for 88 yards and two interceptions and ran the ball 8 times for 106 yards and a touchdown. Most of his yards came on a 93 yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage for the Raiders against the Steelers. The Raiders held onto the 21-18 victory.

Chimdi Chekwa (CB) (2007-10)- Didn’t record any statistics in week 8 but did get some playing time on the punt unit. Chekwa can definitely find a solid role on special teams if he is committed to it.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Cameron Heyward (DE) (2007-10)- Recorded 6 total tackles in week 8 for the Steelers. Statistically speaking, this was Heyward’s best game from a tackle perspective. He continues to carve is role in the Steelers defense.

Mike Adams (OT) (2008-11)- Adams has lost his starting role with the Pittsburgh Steelers because of his poor play. The Steelers have been playing better in the past few weeks. Unless something changes, I can’t see Adams regaining his starting job in the next few weeks.

download (1)

Dallas Cowboys

Will Allen (SS) (2000-03)- Allen was cut by the Cowboys two weeks ago.

Carolina Panthers

Ted Ginn Jr. (WR) (2004-2006)- Recorded 5 receptions for 80 yards in week 8 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also had 2 kick-off returns for 44 yards and 2 punt returns for 7 yards. Ginn dropped a sure touchdown from Newton but it appears he’s finally making his mark in the league.

Ben Hartsock (TE) (1999-03)- Didn’t record any statistics for the Panthers in week 8. Hartsock played well but just doesn’t get the receiving opportunities fellow TE Greg Olsen gets.

Detroit Lions

Rob Sims (OL) (2002-05)- Started at LG for the Seahawks in week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys. Helped the Lions gain 623 total yards and score 31 points in their victory.

Green Bay Packers

A.J. Hawk (LB) (2002-05)- Recorded 5 total tackles in week 8 against the Minnesota Vikings. The Packer defense is banged up so a lot is being placed on Hawk. He continues to play well and be the leader of the defense.

Ryan Pickett (DT) (1998-00)-Recorded 2 total tackles in week 8 against the Minnesota Vikings. Most of the time Pickett doesn’t record any stats because he eats up offensive linemen so guys like Hawk can run free.

Jake Stoneburner (TE/WR) (2009-12)- Was active but didn’t record any statistics in week 8.

New Orleans Saints

Malcolm Jenkins (CB) (2005-08)- Recorded 5 total tackles in the Saints victory over the Bills in week 8. Jenkins is a play maker on the defensive side of the ball and continues to play well.

Will Smith (DE) (2000-03)- Placed on injured reserve (IR) for the remainder of the year. Smith injured his ACL back in August.

New York Giants

Jim Cordle (C) (2007-09)- Started at Center for the Giants in their week 8 victory over the Eagles. David Baas is injured and it has opened the door for Cordle to start and play consistently. The Giants moved the ball but were only able to come away with field goals.

Johnathan Hankins (DT) (2010-12)- Didn’t record any statistics in week 8 but did play a few snaps.

Philadelphia Eagles

Kurt Coleman (DB) (2006-09)- Recorded 1 total tackle for the Eagles in their week 8 loss to the New York Giants. Coleman didn’t start but he saw a little bit of time in the secondary. His main contributions continue to be on special teams.

Washington Redskins

Doug Worthington (DE) (2007-09)- Has been placed on the IR (bicep) for the remainder of the year.
St. Louis Rams

James Laurinaitis (LB) (2005-09)- Recorded only 3 total tackles for the Rams in their week 8 loss to the Seahawks. The Seahawks offense struggled quite a bit so it was surprising Laurinaitis didn’t have a higher tackle total.

Jake McQuaide (LS) (2008-10)- Starting long snapper for the Rams in Week 8.

San Francisco 49ers

Donte Whitner (DB) (2003-05)- Recorded 1 total tackle for the 49ers in their 42-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 8. He also deflected a pass.

Alex Boone (G) (2005-08)- Started at guard for San Francisco in Week 8 against the Jaguars in London. The 49ers rushed for 221 yards and four touchdowns.

It continues to shock me that Brewster has not seen more playing yet this season.

New Orleans Saints
Malcolm Jenkins (CB) (2005-08)– The Saints didn’t play in week 7. Jenkins will be back in action next week against the Buffalo Bills.

Chimdi Chekwa (CB) (2007-10)- Didn’t record any tackles in the Raiders week 5 victory over the Chargers. Chekwa did recover a fumble on an Eddie Royal fumble on a punt return. Chekwa’s snaps came on special teams as he is an active member of multiple units.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Cameron Heyward (DE) (2007-10)- The Steelers had a bye week after they went to London in week 4. They return to action this week.

Mike Adams (OT) (2008-11)- The Steelers had a bye week after they went to London in week 4. They return to action this week.

Dallas Cowboys

Will Allen (SS) (2000-03)- Recorded 1 total tackle in the Cowboys week 5 loss to the Denver Broncos. Allen only played in a handful of snaps on defense and about half on special teams. If things remain the same, I can’t see him getting much playing time in the defensive backfield.

Carolina Panthers

Ted Ginn Jr. (WR) (2004-2006)- Recorded 4 receptions for 78 yards on 5 targets in the Panthers week 5 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Ginn didn’t start but played in nearly half of the offensive snaps. He continues to be a valuable asset for the Carolina passing game.

Ben Hartsock (TE) (1999-03)- Didn’t record any statistics in the Panthers week 5 loss to the Cardinals. Hartsock continues to be a none factor in the passing game on a weekly basis. He is stuck behind Greg Olsen.

Detroit Lions

Rob Sims (OL) (2002-05)- Started at LG for the Lions in week 5 against the Green Bay Packers. Sims didn’t come off the field once but only helped the Lions gain 64 yards on the ground. The offensive line also gave up five sacks.

Green Bay Packers

A.J. Hawk (LB) (2002-05)- Recorded 9 total tackles and a pass deflection in the Packers week 5 victory over the Detroit Lions. As usual, Hawk was all over the field and didn’t take many breaks on the sidelines either. His value continues to increase, especially when Clay Mathews can’t play.

Ryan Pickett (DT) (1998-00)- Started in the middle for the Packers as usual but didn’t record any statistics. He only played in roughly a third of the snaps as well.

New Orleans Saints

Malcolm Jenkins (CB) (2005-08)- Recorded 3 total tackles, a sack and a forced fumble in the Saints week 5 victory over the Chicago Bears. Jenkins didn’t leave the field at all for the Saints defense.

Will Smith (DE) (2000-03)- Placed on injured reserve (IR) for the remainder of the year. Smith injured his ACL back in August.

Jay Richardson (LB) (2002-06)- Didn’t record any statistics in week 5 for the Saints. He played in a few special teams snaps but didn’t record any playing time on defense.

New York Giants

Jim Cordle (C) (2007-09)- Recorded his second career start for the New York Giants in week 5. While Cordle struggled to see the field the first few weeks of this season, he recorded his second start in a row. He didn’t miss a single snap the entire game. Things are looking up for Cordle even if the Giants are struggling right now.

Johnathan Hankins (DT) (2010-12)- Recorded 5 total tackles, a tackle for a loss and a QB hurry in Week 5 for the Giants. Hankins was active for the first time all season and he produced. I expect him to stay active moving forward for the Giants.

Philadelphia Eagles

Kurt Coleman (DB) (2006-09)- Recorded 1 total tackle on special teams for the Eagles in their week 5 victory over the New York Giants. Coleman didn’t play on defense but was a mainstay on special teams.

Washington Redskins

Doug Worthington (DE) (2007-09)- Has been placed on the IR (bicep) for the remainder of the year.

St. Louis Rams

James Laurinaitis (LB) (2005-09)- Recorded 8 total tackles with one tackle for a loss and an interception week 5. The Rams held the Jaguars to 20 points in their victory.

Jake McQuaide (LS) (2008-10)- Starting long snapper for the Rams in Week 5.

San Francisco 49ers

Donte Whitner (DB) (2003-05)- Recorded 3 total tackles and forced and recovered a fumble in the 49ers week 5 victory over the Texans. Whitner is also trying to change his last name to Hitner. However, the government shutdown has prevented him from submitting the necessary paperwork to legally change it. Stay tuned.

Alex Boone (G) (2005-08)- Started at guard for San Francisco in Week 5 against Houston. The 49ers rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns.

Baltimore Ravens

John Simon (LB) (2009-12)- Recorded 1 total tackle in the Raven’s week 4 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Simon continues to see infrequent playing time. We’ll see as the season progresses if he’ll play much more. He is also still getting used to playing without his hand in the dirt.

Cincinnati Bengals

Mike Nugent (K) (2001-04)- Mike Nugent (K) (2001-04)- Went 2/2 on FG attempts in Cincinnati’s week 4 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Nugent was the only avenue of scoring the Bengals could go down. He had a long of 43.

Dane Sanzenbacher (WR) (2007-10)- Dane Sanzenbacher (WR) (2007-10)- Recorded 1 catch for 6 yards during Cincinnati’s week 4 loss to the Browns. He remains buried behind a talented receiving core led by A.J. Green, it is a positive sign Sanzenbacher was at least able to record a catch. We’ll see if it translates into any more opportunities

Houston Texans

Devier Posey (WR) (2008-11)- Didn’t record any statistics for the Texans in week 4 against the Seahawks. Posey continues to get stronger after his season ending achilles injury last season.

Denver Broncos

Justin Boren (G) (2009-10)- Didn’t record any statistics or playing time for the Broncos in week 4. It will be difficult for Boren to see any playing time unless the offensive line becomes decimated with injuries over the course of the season.

Miami Dolphins

Brian Hartline (WR) (2006-08)- Recorded 3 receptions for 34 yards on 4 targets in week 4 against the New Orleans Saints. Hartline continues to be one of Ryan Tannehill’s top targets. This Monday night clash was a battle of the unbeatens and Miami fell off the perch.

New England Patriots

Nate Ebner (DB) (2008-11)- Didn’t record any statistics in the Patriot’s week 4 victory over Atlanta. He continues to be a mainstay on special teams, especially the kick off team.

New York Jets

Santonio Holmes (WR) (2003-05)- Recorded 1 catch for 25 yards on 5 total targets from QB Geno Smith. The Jets were manhandled by the Titans and Holmes didn’t help out the cause by getting open.

Nick Mangold (C) (2002-05)- Started at Center for the Jets in week 4 against the Tennessee Titans. Mangold and the rest of his teammates really struggled along the offensive line. The Titans interior defensive line was successful at the point of attack.

Oakland Raiders

Terrelle Pryor (QB) (2008-10)- Didn’t record any statistics in week 4 against the Redskins. He was forced to sit out after suffering a concussion in week 3. The Raiders will continue to monitor Pryor’s progress and hopefully he can be cleared for week 5.

Chimdi Chekwa (CB) (2007-10)- Didn’t record any statistics in Oakland’s week 3 loss to the Denver Broncos. He continues to be a backup at the cornerback position. Chekwa was a scratch during week 2 but was ready to go in week 3. It will only take an injury at cornerback for Chekwa to see action.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Cameron Heyward (DE) (2007-10)- Recorded 1 pass deflection and no tackles in week 4 against the Vikings. Pass deflections have become a part of Heyward’s game as of late. Heyward continues to play behind Keisel but does see a decent amount a playing time.

Mike Adams (OT) (2008-11)- Started at Left Tackle for the Steelers in their week 4 loss to Minnesota. Adams struggled at times against DE Jared Allen. He gave up 2.5 sacks.

images

Dallas Cowboys

Will Allen (SS) (2000-03)- Allen lost his starting job in week 3 to Georgia Southern rookie safety JJ Wilcox. Wilcox played well and it looks like he will be the starter moving forward. In week 4, Allen recorded 1 tackle and the Cowboys lost to the San Diego Chargers. The defense gave up 20 straight points to end the game.

Carolina Panthers

Ted Ginn Jr. (WR) (2004-2006)- The Carolina Panthers bye was in week 4. They will pick up play again in week 5.

Ben Hartsock (TE) (1999-03)- The Carolina Panthers bye was in week 4. They will pick up play again in week 5.

Detroit Lions

Rob Sims (OL) (2002-05)- Started at LG for the Lions in week 4 against the Chicago Bears. Sims will continue to start at LG unless he suffers an injury. The Lions averaged over 5 yards a carry with Sims paving the way.

Green Bay Packers

A.J. Hawk (LB) (2002-05)- The Green Bay Packers bye was in week 4. They will pick up play again in week 5.

Ryan Pickett (DT) (1998-00)- The Green Bay Packers bye was in week 4. They will pick up play again in week 5.

New Orleans Saints

Malcolm Jenkins (CB) (2005-08)- Recorded 7 total tackles and 1 tackle for loss in the Saints week 4 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Jenkins is arguably the Saints most valuable defensive player on the roster. His ability to play all over the field is a huge asset for the Saints.

Will Smith (DE) (2000-03)- Placed on injured reserve (IR) for the remainder of the year. Smith injured his ACL back in August.

New York Giants

Jim Cordle (C) (2007-09)- Recorded his first career start for the New York Giants in week 4. In the preseason, it looked as if Cordle was going to have a chance to start but it didn’t end up that way. I think if the Giants continue to struggle, Cordle and some other younger guys will continue to get worked into the lineup and on the field.

Johnathan Hankins (DT) (2010-12)- Didn’t record any statistics in Week 4 for the Giants. Hankins was inactive.

Philadelphia Eagles

Kurt Coleman (DB) (2006-09)- Didn’t record any statistics in the Eagles week 4 loss to the Broncos. Simply put, Manning torched the Eagles secondary to the tune of 327 passing yards with 4 touchdowns. The Eagles are really struggling after getting a week 1 victory.

Washington Redskins

Doug Worthington (DE) (2007-09)- Has been placed on the IR (bicep) for the remainder of the year.

St. Louis Rams

James Laurinaitis (LB) (2005-09)- Recorded 12 total tackles in the week 4 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. As a whole, the Rams defense wasn’t very good against San Francisco. Their offense didn’t help at all and continually left the Rams defense in bad situations.

Jake McQuaide (LS) (2008-10)- Starting long snapper for the Rams in Week 4. The Rams only scored 11 points so McQuaide only got to snap on 1 field goal.

San Francisco 49ers

Donte Whitner (DB) (2003-05)- Recorded 1 interception, 3 total tackles and 1 pass deflection in the week 4 victory over the Rams. The 49ers bounced back in a big way and the defense was dominant by only giving up 11 points.

Alex Boone (G) (2005-08)- Started at guard for San Francisco in Week 4 against St. Louis. The team rushed for 219 yards and Boone was a big reason why. He helped open up running lanes for the backs.

Baltimore Ravens

John Simon (LB) (2009-12)- Recorded 1 total tackle in the Ravens’ week 3 victory over the Houston Texans. Simon continues to see infrequent playing time. We’ll see as the season progresses if he’ll play much more.

Cincinnati Bengals

Mike Nugent (K) (2001-04)- Nugent missed his only field goal attempt in week 3 against the Green Bay Packers. He also missed a PAT but went four for five overall in that department.

Dane Sanzenbacher (WR) (2007-10)- Didn’t record any statistics in the Bengals week 3 victory over Green Bay. He remains buried behind a talented receiving core led by A.J. Green.

Houston Texans

Devier Posey (WR) (2008-11)- Recorded 3 catches for 29 yards on 4 targets. This was Posey’s season debut after suffering a season ending achilles injury last season.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Mike Brewster (C) (2008-11)- Continues to be a back-up across multiple positions on the offensive line. Brewster has yet to start a game for Jacksonville this season but he continues to see some action as the game goes along.

Denver Broncos

Justin Boren (G) (2009-10)- Didn’t record any statistics or playing time for the Broncos in Week 3. It will be difficult for Boren to see any playing time unless the offensive line becomes decimated with injuries over the course of the season.

Miami Dolphins

Brian Hartline (WR) (2006-08)- Recorded 4 catches for 56 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Even the Miami signed Mike Wallace to a big contract in the off season, Hartline continues to produce consistently.

New England Patriots

Nate Ebner (DB) (2008-11)- Didn’t record any statistics in the Patriot’s week 3 victory over Tampa Bay. He continues to be a main stay on special teams.

New York Jets

Santonio Holmes (WR) (2003-05)- Recorded 5 catches for 154 yards and 1 touchdown in the Jet’s week 3 victory over the Buffalo Bills. This was a breakout game for Holmes as he has been battling a foot ailment during the early part of the season.

Nick Mangold (C) (2002-05)- Started at Center for the Jets in week 3 against the Buffalo Bills. Helped lead the Jets to over 500 total yards of offense.

Oakland Raiders

Terrelle Pryor (QB) (2008-10)- Went 19-for-28 with 281 yards and a touchdown in the Oakland’s week 3 loss to the Denver Broncos. Pryor also ran the ball 4 times for 36 yards and continues to be a bright spot for the Raiders. However, he did suffer a concussion on Monday and his status for this upcoming week is unclear. If he continues to progress beyond the concussion, there is no doubt Pryor will remain the Oakland starting QB.

Cameron Heyward (DE) (2007-10)- Recorded 1 total tackle in Pittsburgh’s week 3 loss to Chicago. Heyward continues to play behind Keisel but does see a decent amount of playing time. I still continue to believe Heyward will be a key cog on the Steeler’s defensive line.

Mike Adams (OT) (2008-11)- Started at Left Tackle for the Steelers in their week 3 loss to Chicago. Helped lead the Steelers to 459 yards of total offense. However, the offense turned it over 5 times which negated many of the yards.

images

Dallas Cowboys

Will Allen (SS) (2000-03)- Allen lost his starting job in week 3 to Georgia Southern rookie safety JJ Wilcox. Wilcox played well and it looks like he will be the starter moving forward. Maybe Allen can see some nickel/dime package action if there are no injuries that thrust him back in the starting lineup.

Carolina Panthers

Ted Ginn Jr. (WR) (2004-2006)- Recorded 3 receptions and a team high 71 yards with a touchdown. The 47 yard touchdown came at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Ginn also had a punt return for 12 yards. He continues to make an impact on the Panthers and is definitely their deep threat.

Ben Hartsock (TE) (1999-03)- Didn’t record any statistics for the Panthers in week 3 against the New York Giants. Hartsock continues to be the 2nd TE behind Greg Olsen. Olsen has been involved heavily in the passing game for Carolina but it hasn’t translated into opportunities for Hartsock. .

Detroit Lions

Rob Sims (OL) (2002-05)- Started at LG for the Lions in week 3 against the Redskins. Sims will continue to start at LG unless he suffers an injury. He helped pave the way for the Lions’ 441 yards of total offense.

Green Bay Packers

A.J. Hawk (LB) (2002-05)- Recorded 9 total tackles and one tackle for loss in Green Bay’s week 3 loss to the Bengals. Hawk continues to rack up the tackles for Green Bay and now has 23 on the season.

Ryan Pickett (DT) (1998-00)- Recorded 1 total tackle and 1 pass deflection for Green Bay in week 3. You can’t measure Pickett’s value to the Packer defense on stats alone. His ability to constantly demand double teams and keep blockers from getting to the next level shouldn’t be undervalued.

New Orleans Saints

Malcolm Jenkins (CB) (2005-08)- Recorded 3 total tackles and 1 pass deflection in New Orleans week 3 victory over the Cardinals. Jenkins helped hold Carson Palmer to just 161 yards and less than 5 yards per pass. He continues to be one of the most valuable members of the Saints defense.

Will Smith (DE) (2000-03)- Placed on injured reserve (IR) for the remainder of the year. Smith injured his ACL back in August.

New York Giants

Jim Cordle (C) (2007-09)- Didn’t record any statistics in Week 3 for the Giants. For a while, it looked like Cordle was going to start during the early portion of this season. However, Head Coach Tom Coughlin made a last minute decision to shift the offensive line around which sent Cordle back to 2nd string. The way the offense looked for the Giants this week, it certainly couldn’t hurt to test Cordle out.

Johnathan Hankins (DT) (2010-12)- Didn’t record any statistics in Week 3 for the Giants. Hankins is buried on the depth chart right now at defensive line. As he continues to round into shape, he might see some playing time later in the season.

Philadelphia Eagles

Kurt Coleman (DB) (2006-09)- Recorded 1 total tackle in the Eagles week 3 loss to the Chiefs. Coleman is still sitting behind Patrick Chung at FS on the depth chart. With starting experience, Coleman will be ready if his number is called to start. Meanwhile, he’ll continue to see some playing time on special teams and in nickel/dime packages.

Washington Redskins

Doug Worthington (DE) (2007-09)- Has been placed on the IR (bicep) for the remainder of the year.

St. Louis Rams

James Laurinaitis (LB) (2005-09)- Recorded 5 total tackles for the Rams in their week 3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The defense as a whole was dominated by the Cowboys as they rolled up 193 yards of rushing throughout the game. The Rams offense isn’t potent enough for their defense to not show up on a consistent basis.

Jake McQuaide (LS) (2008-10)- Starting long snapper for the Rams in Week 3. McQuaide signed a 4-year extension in the off season and will be the Rams long snapper for the foreseeable future.

San Francisco 49ers

Donte Whitner (DB) (2003-05)- Recorded 7 total tackles in their week 3 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Whitner was flagged during the first defensive play of the game for targeting a defenseless receiver. From there, it seemed to all go negative for the San Francisco’s defense. They gave up 27 points and 5 yards a play.

Alex Boone (G) (2005-08)- Started at guard for San Francisco in Week 3 against Indianapolis. Other than one sustained drive, the offense was in hibernation. Boone did help San Francisco gain 115 yards on the ground but it wasn’t nearly enough to keep up with the Colts.

Baltimore Ravens
John Simon (LB) (2009-12)- Recorded 1 total tackle in the Ravens Week 2 victory over the Cleveland Browns. While Simon doesn’t start for the Ravens, this was his NFL debut.

Cincinnati Bengals
Mike Nugent (K) (2001-04)- Nugent was 2/2 on FG’s and 2-2 on PAT’s. He hit one field goal between 20-29 yards and one between 40-49 yards.
Dane Sanzenbacher (WR) (2007-10)- Didn’t record any statistics in Week 2. Sanzenbacher is still buried on the depth chart for the Bengals.

Houston Texans
Devier Posey (WR) (2008-11)-Was inactive and didn’t record any statistics in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans. The Texans believe Posey is still a few weeks away from returning after the season ending achilles injury last year.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Mike Brewster (C) (2008-11)- Brewster continues to back up Brad Meester at Center for the Jaguars. Unless Meester gets injured, it will be difficult for Brewster to see much time at Center.

Denver Broncos
Justin Boren (G) (2009-10)- Didn’t record any statistics or playing time for the Broncos in Week 2. It will be difficult for Boren to see any playing time unless the offensive line becomes decimated with injuries over the course of the season.

Miami Dolphins
Brian Hartline (WR) (2006-08)- Recorded 5 catches for 68 yards in Week 2 against the Colts. He was targeted 8 times. Wallace continues to be the number 1 option but Hartline will continue to command attention.

New England Patriots
Nate Ebner (DB) (2008-11)- Didn’t record any tackles in Week 2 against the Jets but did appear in three of the four special teams units.

New York Jets
Santonio Holmes (WR) (2003-05)- Recorded 3 catches for 51 yards in Week 2 against the Patriots. Holmes is still not back to 100% but he played more than he did week 1. Without any setbacks, Holmes should be back as the Jets number one receiver.
Nick Mangold (C) (2002-05)- Mangold started at Center as usual for the Jets in Week 2. He was involved in a scrum in the waning minutes of the game against the Patriots. He went low while trying to tackle Aquib Talib and the Patriots took offense. Teammates D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Willie Colon ended up being ejected.

Oakland Raiders
Terrelle Pryor (QB) (2008-10)- Completed 15-of-24 passes for 126 yards and added 9 rushes for 50 yards in the Raider’s Week 2 victory over the Jaguars. Pryor will continue to start for the Raiders moving forward, especially with his mobility and their suspect offensive line
Chimdi Chekwa (CB) (2007-10)- Didn’t record any statistics during the Raiders Week 2 victory. Chekwa remains a back-up in the Oakland secondary.

Pittsburgh Steelers
Cameron Heyward (DE) (2007-10)- Recorded 0 total tackles but had 2 pass deflections and 1 quarterback hurry. Heyward is still backing up Brad Keisel at defensive end.
Mike Adams (OT) (2008-11)- Started at offensive tackle for the Steelers again in Week 2. Adams helped the Steelers average just over 5 yards per play. Unfortunately, the offense only scored 10 points against the Bengal’s defense.

images

Dallas Cowboys
Will Allen (SS) (2000-03)- Recorded 4 total tackles and 1 pass deflection in Week 2 for the Cowboys. Allen continues to start at SS and is heavily involved in the defensive scheme. His versatility will continue to help Monte Kiffin and his 4-3 scheme.

Carolina Panthers
Ted Ginn Jr. (WR) (2004-2006)- Recorded 3 catches for 62 yards and a touchdown in Carolina’s Week 2 loss. Ginn was targeted 8 times as opposed to 1 target in Week 1.
Ben Hartsock (TE) (1999-03)- Didn’t record any statistics in Week 2. Greg Olsen continues to put up big numbers at TE for the Panthers. Hartsock is Carolina’s blocking TE.
Anderson Russell (S) (2006-09)- Russell is currently an unrestricted free agent. He is no longer on the Panthers roster.

Detroit Lions
Rob Sims (OL) (2002-05)- Started for the Lions at LG in Week 2. Sims also helped the offense to 5.6 yards per play against the Cardinals.

Green Bay Packers
A.J. Hawk (LB) (2002-05)- Started at LB for the Packers in Week 2 as usual. Hawk recorded 5 total tackles against the Redskins. This number is somewhat misleading, as RGIII was forced to throw the ball a lot due to an early deficit.
Ryan Pickett (DT) (1998-00)- Started at DT for the Packers in Week 2 as usual. While Pickett didn’t record any tackles, he did have a pass deflection. The Redskins were forced to throw the ball early and often and eliminated Pickett’s effectiveness.

New Orleans Saints
Malcolm Jenkins (CB) (2005-08)- Started in the defensive backfield for the Saints in Week 2. Jenkins continues to be one of the key cogs in New Orleans’ defensive schemes. Jenkins recorded 2 total tackles and deflected a pass. Tampa Bay is a heave run team so Jenkins had to play close to the box in Week 2.
Will Smith (DE) (2000-03)- Placed on injured reserve (IR) for the remainder of the year. Smith injured his ACL back in August.

New York Giants
Jim Cordle (C) (2007-09)- Didn’t record any statistics in Week 2 for the Giants. For a while, it looked like Cordle was going to start during the early portion of this season. However, Head Coach Tom Coughlin made a last minute decision to shift the offensive line around which sent Cordle back to 2nd string.
Johnathan Hankins (DT) (2010-12)- Didn’t record any statistics in Week 2 for the Giants. Hankins buried on the depth chart right now at defensive line. As he continues to round into shape, he might see some playing time later in the season.

Philadelphia Eagles
Kurt Coleman (DB) (2006-09)- Didn’t record any statistics for the Eagles in Week 2. Coleman is still sitting behind Patrick Chung at FS on the depth chart. With starting experience, Coleman will be ready if his number is called.

Washington Redskins
Doug Worthington (DE) (2007-09)- Has been placed on the IR (bicep) for the remainder of the year.

St. Louis Rams
James Laurinaitis (LB) (2005-09)- Recorded 5 total tackles for the Rams in Week 2. As usual, Laurinaitis started at MLB for St. Louis. The Falcons only averaged 2.6 yards per carry.
Jake McQuaide (LS) (2008-10)- Starting long snapper for the Rams in Week 2. McQuaide signed a 4-year extension in the off season and will be the Rams long snapper for the foreseeable future.

San Francisco 49ers
Donte Whitner (DB) (2003-05)- Recorded 5 total tackles and 2 pass deflections in Week 2. Overall, the 49ers played relatively well on defense against Seattle. The defense didn’t get much help from the 49er’s offense.
Alex Boone (G) (2005-08)- Started at guard for San Francisco in Week 2 against Seattle. Helped the 49ers average 5 yards a carry but the offense turned it over 5 times. Across the line, the offensive line lost the overall battle against Seattle’s defensive front.

John Simon (LB) (2009-12)- Inactive

Cincinnati Bengals

Mike Nugent (K) (2001-04)- Didn’t attempt a field goal but was 3/3 on PAT’s.

Dane Sanzenbacher (WR) (2007-10)- Didn’t record any statistics in Week 1.

Houston Texans

Devier Posey (WR) (2008-11)- Didn’t record any statistics for Week 1. Posey has recovered from a season ending Achilles injury last year in only 8 months. For now, he remains as the no. 5 WR for the Texans.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Mike Brewster (C) (2008-11)- Didn’t record any statistics or playing time in Week 1. Currently back up to Brad Meester.

Denver Broncos

Justin Boren (G) (2009-10)- Didn’t record any statistics or playing time in Week 1.

Miami Dolphins

Brian Hartline (WR) (2006-08)- Caught 9 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown in Miami’s week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns. The touchdown was on a 34 yarder up the left sideline. It was quite the homecoming for the Canton product.

New England Patriots

Nate Ebner (DB) (2008-11)- Didn’t record any statistics in Week 1. Ebner is a key cog on the Patriots special teams unit. This is where he will see the vast majority of his playing time.

New York Jets

Santonio Holmes (WR) (2003-05)- Caught 1 pass for 13 yards in the Jets Week 1 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is still working his way back from a major foot injury during the 2012 season.

Nick Mangold (C) (2002-05)- Started for the Jets at center and is the most important piece of the offensive line. Mangold injured his elbow early in the third quarter but returned after only missing a few offense plays. It is vital he plays every week with a rookie signal caller under center.

Oakland Raiders

Terrelle Pryor (QB) (2008-10)- Completed 19-of-29 passes for 217 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He also rushed for game high 112 yards on only 13 carries in Oakland’s Week 1 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. This is by far the best game of Pryor’s young career. Oakland may have found their Quarterback of the future.

Chimdi Chekwa (CB) (2007-10)- Saw some action in Week 1 but didn’t record any statistics. Right now, Chekwa has a chance to get in the Raiders Nickel/Dime package. He is predominately a special teams player right now.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Cameron Heyward (DE) (2007-10)- Saw some action in Week 1 as Brad Keisel’s backup. Heyward recorded 1 tackle in limited action. Unless there is an injury along the Defensive Line it will be hard for Heyward to see consistent playing time at this point.

Mike Adams (OT) (2008-11)- Started at LT after playing RT last season. The Steelers only managed 9 points against the Tennessee Titans but much of that was just a lackluster performance across the board. Adams will continue to start at LT for the Steelers.

images

Dallas Cowboys

Will Allen (SS) (2000-03)- Recorded 3 total tackles and 2 pass deflections in Week 1. Allen also, started at Strong Safety.

Carolina Panthers

Ted Ginn Jr. (WR) (2004-2006)- Caught 1 pass for 10 yards and returned 1 punt for 10 yards. Ginn is the no. 3 receiver right now for the Panthers.

Ben Hartsock (TE) (1999-03)- Didn’t record any statistics in Week 1. Hartsock is currently the no. 2 TE behind Greg Olsen.

Anderson Russell (S) (2006-09)- Didn’t record any statistics in Week 1. Russell is currently buried on the Panthers depth chart. His best way to see the field will be through special teams.

Detroit Lions

Rob Sims (OL) (2002-05)- Started at LG for the Lions in Week 1. Played well, helped the Lions to 469 yards and 34 points.

Green Bay Packers

A.J. Hawk (LB) (2002-05)- Started at LB as usual for the Packers in Week 1. Hawk recorded 9 total tackles and 1 tackle for loss. Wherever the ball is, so is Hawk.

Ryan Pickett (DT) (1998-00)- Started at DT as usual for the Packers in Week 1. Pickett recorded 3 total tackles and 1 tackle for loss. Pickett was shaken on throughout the game against the 49ers but never missed extended time.

New Orleans Saints

Malcolm Jenkins (CB) (2005-08)- Led the Saints in total tackles in Week 1 with 6. Jenkins is all over the field and will continue to be a leading tackler for the Saints moving forward.

Will Smith (DE) (2000-03)- Placed on injured reserve (IR) for the remainder of the year. Smith injured his ACL back in August.

New York Giants

Jim Cordle (C) (2007-09)- Didn’t record any statistics in Week 1 for the Giants. For a while, it looked like Cordle was going to start on opening day. However, Head Coach Tom Coughlin made a last minute decision to shift the offensive line around which sent Cordle back to 2nd string.

Johnathan Hankins (DT) (2010-12)- Didn’t record any statistics for the Giants in Week 1. Still buried on the depth chart to begin the season, I expect Hankins to eventually at least crack the two deep. Hankins will serve primarily as a gap stuffing nose tackle

Philadelphia Eagles

Kurt Coleman (DB) (2006-09)- Didn’t record any statistics in the Eagles Week 1 victory over the Redskins. Coleman is a reserve safety and cornerback if needed. His major contributions will come on special teams as the season progresses. I also think he’ll see playing time in the nickel or dime packages.

Washington Redskins

Doug Worthington (DE) (2007-09)- Has been placed on the IR (bicep) for the remainder of the year.

St. Louis Rams

James Laurinaitis (LB) (2005-09)- Registered a team high 7 tackles in Week 1 for the Rams. Simply put, Laurinaitis never leaves the field. If healthy, he will be a tackling machine for the rest of the season.

Jake McQuaide (LS) (2008-10)- Starting long snapper for the Rams in Week 1. McQuaide signed a 4-year extension in the off season and will be the Rams long snapper for the foreseeable future.

San Francisco 49ers

Donte Whitner (DB) (2003-05)- Recorded 7 tackles and 1 pass deflection for the 49ers in Week 1. Whitner is the starting strong safety next to rookie Eric Reid.

Alex Boone (G) (2005-08)- Started at RG for the 49ers in Week 1. Boone has solidified the RG spot and is his to lose. The 49ers offense will be well balanced this season so I expect big things for Boone.

Coach Meyer speaks out on Hernandez

Since all of the Aaron Hernandez news started to break a few weeks ago Coach Meyer has done his best to stay out of the headlines. While many writers have dragged his name into the story to try and gather their own headlines and hits to their stories. I am choosing not to link any of these stories because they are sensational at best and almost entirely unfounded and under researched by the “media members” attempting to lay blame at the feet of Urban Meyer.

When asked about the case recently Coach Meyer declined to comment to respect the family of the slain victim/victims? Aaron Hernandez is being accused of many horrific crimes in the media but so far only accused of one actual murder in the actual Court of Law and not the Court of Public Opinion. Coach Meyer is a public figure and he has many detractors and although most in the OSU fanbase would jump on those bandwagons a few years back when he was at Florida and ruining Buckeyes NC dreams the truth is we didn’t know what kind of program he ran we weren’t privy to the day to day operations and how he handled his players and program. it can be argued we still don’t know fully how he has handled the OSU program but I can see with my own eyes the way he and his coaches spend time preparing the players for a future outside of football. How they bring their principles and beliefs to the program and share those with the players and hold them to those standards. The players are responsible for their own actions and are treated really well when they are doing well and are treated really badly when they don’t but in both cases you can see and feel the love Coach Meyer has for his players. You can sense how when bad things happens it weighs heavily on Coach Meyer and when they do great things how proud he is of his players.

Much of the criticism against Meyer is “Monday Morning Quaterbacking” looking back in hindsight and trying to judge Meyer on what he didn’t do and not what he did do. Some of the accusations against Meyer are incredulous and insane. I have seen people say that Meyer and Florida paid off the police not to charge his players with multiple shootings and assaults. As if it is just that easy to do and that no one in the police or State Attorney General office would notice Florida players getting a pass on murder charges.

Enough of my opinions lets read what Coach Meyer has to say in his own words. Again some on the “media” will twist these words or worse claim he is lying but they don’t have any proof of the contrary and are just spouting their personal opinions and NOT FACTS. So here thanks to Tim May at The Columbus Dispatch we have Coach Meyers own words on this subject….

“I’ve been, on purpose, staying away from this whole thing, but I’m not now,” Meyer told The Dispatch yesterday before embarking on a family vacation. And he added that, foremost, his “prayers and thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim.”
Yet aspersions have been cast in some media circles that the way Meyer and others tried to help Hernandez work through some of his personal challenges might have served to “enable” him. In a brief interview yesterday, Meyer refuted that claim and others:

Question: Have the recent personal attacks on you in relation to this case bothered you?

Answer: Whenever someone attacks your character, our staff — people aren’t aware of all the things we do in terms of being a mentor, dealing with issues and all that. Yeah, I have been avoiding talking about this because you’re talking about a serious crime; you’re talking about families that have been very affected by this. And to pull something back personal that isn’t true from four to seven years ago, that’s mind-boggling to me.

Q: Pat Dooley of The Gainesville Sun wrote a week ago that you and your wife, Shelley, welcomed Hernandez into your home at times back then, offering him family-style exposure among other ways of trying to show him the right path. Do you think now about what else you could have done?

A: Absolutely. When one of our (Florida assistant) coaches started recruiting him up in (Bristol) Connecticut, it was right after his father had died suddenly. There was a lot of emotional trauma with that. Years ago, that would weigh forever on my chest — “What could we do? What could we do?” Then I’d talk with other coaches, and in essence the conversation was you do the best you can. But at the end of the day, there is free will. You can’t change people. You can set the table and try to help them, make sure there is a spiritual component in their life, make sure there is a family atmosphere. And that’s what we try to do — it’s what we’ve tried to do everywhere.

Q: So how do you react when someone uses the term “enabler” to describe how you handled Hernandez?

A: When I hear that, the first thing I know is it’s not true. And second, I don’t spend much time thinking about it. I’m worried about my players and my team and my family. Years ago, (such criticism) used to bother me. That’s why I don’t read much anymore; I just stay away from it.

Q: What do you recall of Hernandez’s brushes with the law during his time at Florida?

A: Relatively speaking, he had very minor stuff. He was questioned about being a witness (to a shooting), and he had an argument in a restaurant (in which Hernandez allegedly struck an employee in an argument over an unpaid bill), and he was suspended one game (reportedly for a failed marijuana test). Other than that, he was three years a good player. That was it.

Q: It has been suggested that Hernandez failed four to seven drug tests in his time at Florida.

A: I just received an email from a friend where there is an accusation of multiple failed drug tests by Hernandez covered up by the University of Florida or the coaching staff. This is absolutely not true. Hernandez was held to the same drug-testing policy as every other player.

Q: In regards to the shooting incident, in which two people in a car were wounded, a police report surfaced that showed Hernandez and teammate Reggie Nelson were questioned but never charged. What do you recall of that episode?

A: I don’t remember his name in (the report). I remember it was about a one-hour discussion. One of my coaches came in and said, “Hey, they’re getting questioned for this.” … I said, “Well, what do I need to do?” And he said, “Nothing. They’re not involved.” And that was it. They weren’t questioned for (doing) the shooting. They were questioned as a witness.”

Q: You mentioned that your concern for Hernandez rose most when he occasionally would visit his hometown.

A: His people back home said, “Keep him (in Florida), don’t let him come back home” (because of what they saw as unsettling influences). That was a big part of it, now that I remember it. And I didn’t understand the seriousness of it. People warned me and the coaches warned me, saying, “He can’t go back home.” Again, though, I had no idea we’d be talking about what we are now.

Q: Many look upon college head coaches, despite a three- to five-year exposure with an athlete, as being quasi-parents responsible in part for how an athlete turns out.

A: Absolutely that is part of our responsibility. Now can it completely wear you out in worrying about what’s going on 24/7? Yes. But it is our responsibility. We represent the university. We’re like the CEO of a company, but the difference is we’re in the public eye. And then the stories that get told and printed, with the inaccuracies, that’s what just wears you out.

Our program, in my opinion, does as good of a job as anybody in America in involving families, making it a family atmosphere, getting to know our players and trying to develop our players in all areas of their life — social, spiritual, athletic, everything. Our coaches coach, but that’s a small part of it. … It’s why we work so hard on life after football with these kids.
