MotSaG Chat with Chad Mavety

imagesOhio state has 2 major needs for the 2014 class Linebackers and Offensive Lineman. These are major needs with many players needed. OSU already has 4 OLmen in the fold but is really looking to add maybe 2 more guys to the roster. Chad Mavety may be the exact guy they need for the class the 6’6″ 320 lbs 4 star OT from Garden City, New York is a JUCO player. His experience in the JUCO is a major plus as he has been able to develop his game and improve his scholastic studies and become a much more mature guy. He brings great size and speed to the position but maybe most importantly he has a sense of maturity and leadership you wont get from a true freshman. 247sports ranks him a high 4 star and the #3 JUCO player in the country. He will graduate in December and will have 3 years to complete 2 years of eligibility. I hope you all will find his interview as refreshing and truthful as I did. There was real maturity in the answers and depth to them.

SYR- How has recruiting been different for you this time around as opposed to when you were in HS?

Chad- well in high school I was under recruited, when I was graduating high school I probably had 3 division 1 scholarships in Rutgers, West Virginia, and Buffalo. So now being that I’m the #1 Tackle In the country there’s alot more hype around me and coaches do everything to get a hold of me when before I was the one doing anything to get a hold of these coaches!

SYR- Has it been easier since you knew what to expect?

Chad- it has been easier but like I said I’m in an entirely different situation now

SYR- When you were in HS what school did you want or did commit to before going the JUCO route?

Chad- Honestly I was extremely close to committing to Buffalo to play Defensive tackle

SYR- How was it playing last year for your school and how did the season go?

Chad- It was awesome to come into Nassau and start as a freshman! You really have to earn your spot here so knowing that I beat out an upper class men to get the starting job was just a big confidence booster. We finished 9-2 due to
Our quarterback getting surgery right before our biggest game of the season that would’ve put us in the National Championship game.

SYR- Any words of advice for others who may go the JUCO way?

Chad- I always tell the kids that visit Juco it’s not easy but it teaches you how to grow up and take responsibility being that for most kids it’s there last shot to achieve there dream and it can happen at Juco as long as you have the right mentality and goals!

SYR- Do you have an official top 5 list if yes who are they?

Chad- I don’t but I will have a list soon!

SYR- Do you have a favorite right now if yes who is it?

Chad- i don’t have a favorite rite now but I had a great time on my Alabama, Florida state and Ohio state visits.

SYR- If you pick Ohio State has Coach Meyer told you where and when you can expect to play?

Chad- yeah coach Meyer has told me he wants me to be a leader on this team with all the young talent committing and that as soon as I step on campus I’m the starting left tackle an the only way I lose my spot is if I just can’t handle it!

SYR- When do you hope to commit and is it a firm date yet?

Chad- im not sure it may come at a random time or a set date

SYR- Are you worried about spots filling up and missing out or are you assured of a spot if you pick OSU?

Chad- im not worried they told me I have nothing to worry about

SYR- If you were going to die tomorrow what would your last meal be?

Chad- I would say lasagna that’s one of my favorite meals

SYR- Who is your personal hero and why?

Chad- My personal hero is my mom! She has three kids and she’s raised us by herself for years and been through anything and everything a single mother can go through but still never quits!

SYR- What college did you grow up being a fan of and why?

Chad- I grew up loving Syracuse because my Aunts went there together! It was during the Melo era and I was the biggest Melo fan when he was on Syracuse so I would always visit and I fell In love with the place.

SYR- Who is your favorite football player ever?

Chad- Favorite football player ever idk but favorite rite now is Demarcus Ware, truly a role model on the field and off!

SYR- What would you like OSU fans to know about you that they probably don’t already know?

Chad- Im not a cocky super star athlete I’m just a regular kid from a small town that’s humble and blessed to be in my situation and the reason I take my #55 jersey so seriously is that I wear it for my father who passed away when I was 7.

MotSaG Chat with Justin Hilliard

justin-2015I recently had the chance to interview the top prospect in Ohio for 2015 and one of the top LBers in the entire country. Justin Hilliard is a High 4 star Linebacker from Cincinnati, Ohio. He is one of the best players in the country and holds offers from Ohio State, TTUN, Notre Dame, Miami of FL., Texas A&M, and many others. 247sports ranks him a 4 star and the 43rd best recruit in the country. ESPN ranks him a 4 star and the 145th best recruit in the country for 2015. This kid is being recruited hard by many of the top schools and his skill set is one that is coveted by everyone. Based on his interview below though you can argue he has no favorite at this point and that his recruiting is wide open. Being an Ohio resident doesn’t seem to give Ohio State the inside track as he has moved all over. Most experts are predicting him to follow his brother to Iowa which sounds crazy but could very well happen. Here is the interview I had with him and I want to thank him for taking the time to do this interview with us.

SYR- Tell us a little bit about your HS FB team such as record and defensive style.

Justin- I go to St. Xavier, been to state championship 3 out of the last 8 years, we run a 3-3-5 and a run stopping defense

SYR- What are your goals for the upcoming season?

Justin- To win state

SYR- What college football team did you grow up being a fan of and why?

Justin- I really never had a dream team or favorite team since I moved all over the place

SYR- You have offers from all over the country which one was the most exciting for you to get and why?

Justin- My first offer was from Iowa and was my most exciting because it started my recruitment

SYR- Who would you say is your personal hero and why?

Justin- Reggie white, because he was an amazing player on and off the field

SYR- If you were going to die tomorrow what would your final meal be?

Justin- Lobster tail

SYR- Who do you think you compare to most in the NFL or College right now?

Justin- Levonte David or cj mosley

SYR- Who is your favorite College player of all time? And favorite NFL player of all time if different from College?

Justin- Tim Tebow, and Reggie White/ Lawrence Taylor

SYR- Do you have a top 5 yet and if yes who are they?

Justin- Not yet

SYR- Do you currently have a leader?

Justin- Not yet

SYR- Do you know when you would like to announce your commitment, if yes, when?

Justin- When I’m positive I’m making the right decision, when I commit, its set at that point

SYR- What would you like Buckeye Nation to know about you that they most likely don’t already know?

Justin- Ive never been to a game, my first one will be in october

MotSaG Chat with Teryn Savage

At the age of 15 This young stud is already receiving interest from some of the best programs including numerous SEC schools and THE Ohio State University. This past week I got to know a great young man and ask him a few questions about his recruitment and life outside of football. This young man is Teryn Savage he attended Cary HS in North Carolina. Teryn is currently 6″1 and weights in at 175 lbs. He ran a 4.63 40 yard dash this past weekend however it was his first time ever running it. Teryn is only going to get bigger and stronger, which a scary thought due to how dominate he already is. Teryn is very mature for age and would be a great fit for the Buckeyes.

Q: When did Ohio State first make contact with you, and how did it feel?

A: Ohio St first contacted me about 2 weeks ago after i sent in my film. It felt real good knowing that a coach took time out of his day to hand write me 2 letters.

Q: Who is your primary recruiter and how often do you speak?

A: Coach Zach Smith. we talk pretty much once a week and stuff.

Q: What about Ohio State makes you strongly consider them?

A: Urban Meyer of course & the program there is almost like a dynasty

Q: What has Urban Meyer told you about how they plan on using you if you committed to OSU?

A: Although I’m young Coach has told me With my skill set I could come in and play right away. Most colleges can’t promise that

MotSaG Chat with Jonathan Hilliman

FootballJonathan Hilliman is considered a power back with a nice burst similar to what type of player Carlos Hyde is. Hilliman is 6″1 weighting in at 210 lbs and runs a 4.52 40 yard dash. Last year he ran for 1,400 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Hillman is considered a three star on all three websites, however don’t let the stars fool you he can play with the best collecting offers from the likes of Alabama, Oregon, Ohio State and Michigan.

hilliman247 lists him as the number 28 overall running back
Rivals lists him as the number 42 overall running back
Scout lists him as the number 40 overall running back

I had the privilege of interviewing 2014 prospect Jonathan Hilliman, running back from Jersey City, New Jersey. The Buckeyes don’t have much more room in the 2014 class but hopefully Jonathan is a part of it and becomes a member of the Dream 14! (You can follow Jonathan Hilliman on Twitter @J_M_H23)

Q: With offers from almost every school, how hard was it to narrow down your list to just a top 10?

A: The hardest part is telling a coach No. It was kind of easy to narrow it down due to the criteria for my selection of the right school.

Q: You previously stated that after your visit to OSU that Ohio State was your leader is that still the case?

A: At the moment yes OSU is still the leader.

Q: How close were you to committing on your visit, if close what made you delay committing?

A: I was extremely close to committing but I just told myself I was gonna keep an open mind still and stay open

Q: Who is your main recruiter for Ohio State and how often do you speak with him?

A: Coach Warriner and we speak once every other week

Q: What are your personal goals for your senior season, and team goals?

A: To win the state title and be the number 1 team in the tristate area and ranked in the country . And to rush for over 2500 yards and 40 tds

Q: What would you say your biggest strengths as a player are?

A: My mixture of size/power and speed. And my vision. I am able to do a lot as an RB as far as blocking and catching out the back field.

Q: When would you like to make your commitment?

A: I’m leaning towards committing before the season.

Q: What NFL player does your game most resemble in your opinion?

A: AP, Darren McFadden, and Arian Foster

Q: Which college team was your favorite growing up?

A: The USC Trojans

Q: If you could tell Buckeye Nation one thing what would it be?

A: Love you guys. Thank for showing me a great time and much love to the swaggernuts!!
