MotSaG Chat with Torrance Gibson

5star_recruit_iconosuHelmetUrban Meyer has an Offensive System that much we all know. Every now and again there comes a high school recruit who fits it perfectly. The 2015 class has a couple of QBs who fit the mold of what Coach Meyer wants and one of them stands out above the rest. Torrance Gibson is a 6’4″ 200 lbs 5 star QB from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Torrance is a Dual Threat QB who runs a spread offense in HS very similar to what Coach Meyer runs at Ohio State. If you watch his film (see below) you can almost see the similarities to Braxton Miller. He is a great runner and a better passer at this point in his career than most DT QBs. If he ends up at OSU you can be sure they system wont change and the offense will prosper.

MotSaG Chat with Steven Gonzalez

osuHelmet4star_recruit_iconI recently had the opportunity to interview Steven Gonzalez a 2015 Olman from Union City, NJ. The 6’5″ 305 lbs 4 star OL recruit has been on Ohio State fans radar for a few months now as the coaching staff has made him their top Interior OL recruit. He has recently named OSU his leader and listed a top 5. The young man has dealt with some serious set backs in recent months with the passing of his father last September. The one thing you can tell by the way he answers every question I asked was his father was an important part of his life and helped to mold Steven into the fine young man he is today. Ohio State would be extremely lucky to have them come and play for them and for that matter any school who gets his services will be better off for it.

tmpVxG6vO-mdly-photo

247sports ranks him as a 4 star and the 59th best recruit in the country. Rivals ranks him a 4 star and the 165th best recruit in the country. ESPN ranks him a 4 star and the 77th best recruit in the country. Scout ranks him a 3 star and the 38th best OT in the country. Steven projects to play the Offensive Guard position at Ohio State but could also play Tackle as well. Here is the interview in its entirety I hope you enjoy it as much as I did doing it. Thank you to Steven Gonzalez for taking the time to do this interview with us here at MotSaG.

SYR- If you could please tell us about your home life… Parents, brothers and/or sisters, where you were born, Have you always lived in in the same place?

Steven- Well I live with my mother and I was born in Englewood, NJ. My father recently passed away in September. I have 1 older brother and a younger brother. Then I have 3 older sisters. I have lived in the same place since I was born. I mean after my fathers passing, it has been pretty rough but we’re fighting through it.

SYR- Can you give us your current stats such as height, weight, 40 yard time, bench press, etc?

Steven- I am 6’5 and 305 lbs. My bench press is 350. Power Clean is 295. Squat is 505. I run a 5.3.

SYR- Tell us a little bit about your HS FB team such as record and offensive style?

Steven- Well we made the semi-finals 3 years in a row. We run a Wing T offense and a 4-3 Defense with a mix of 3-3-5 and 4-4. We went 9-2 this year including playoffs. An OL named Josue Matias starts left guard at Florida State and just recently won the National Championship, he’s #70 and is projected to be a high prospect in next years NFL Draft

SYR- What are your goals for your Senior season?

Steven- My goals for my Senior season is to win a state ring, then i want to be first team all-american (got 2nd team JR All American by MaxPreps), then I want to go to the Under Armour All American Game and participate in that. Then lastly, I want to sign to the college I end up choosing.

SYR- What college football team did you grow up being a fan of and why?

Steven- I really wasn’t too interested into college football as a child, I was more into the NFL and like I didn’t really understand college football too well. But the team I would always hear about being good is Miami U and thats the team some family members of mine like and I grew up liking them as well.

SYR- You have offers from all over the country which one was the most exciting for you to get and why?

Steven- I feel like all my offers were exciting, but the one that stood out was the Ohio State offer. My coaches had no connection with them and they just found me, watched my tape, offered me, and have told me I’m the top interior lineman they’re recruiting in the 2015 class, which is very exciting to know and is a blessing.

SYR- Who would you say is your personal hero and why?

Steven- My father is my personal hero, he’s the one that got me into football and taught me how to play. Ever since then, I’ve been making him proud with all of the attention I’ve received. Also, I feel like my mother is also because she provides so much for me, I’m blessed to have a great mother who cares so much about her sons future and will do anything for him to be great and to succeed. They’ve taught me so much and have matured me into the man I am today.

SYR- If you were going to die tomorrow what would your final meal be?

Steven- Ha, well God forbid I do anytime soon, but if it was to happen my last meal would be rice, black beans and chicken. Some good ole’ Spanish food haha.

SYR- Who do you think you compare to most in the NFL or College right now?

Steven- I feel like I compare a lot to Josue Matias, left guard from Florida State.

SYR- Who is your favorite College player of all time? And favorite NFL player of all time if different from College?

Steven- I really don’t have a favorite college player, there has been to many great college players, its hard to decide. But for NFL, I’d say right now it would be Adrian Peterson. I’m a Minnesota Vikings fan haha.

SYR- You have a top 5 of Ohio State, Rutgers, S Carolina, BC, Wisconsin. is there any other schools who are close to making the top 5?

Steven- Yes there are plenty of schools that haven’t or are close to offering that would crack that top 5 and even make it a top 10. Florida State, Oregon, Michigan State, Alabama, Miami U, Michigan, Notre Dame, UCLA, and Penn State would make that list bigger if they were to offer.

SYR- Do you currently have a leader?

Steven- Yes out of the offers I have so far, Ohio State is my leader.

SYR- Do you know when you would like to announce your commitment, if yes, when?

Steven- Well, I’m feel like I want to commit on Signing Day, but if I decide before and i’m solid on it, I will commit early.

SYR- Have you visited Ohio State yet if yes how did it go? and do you have any plans to visit them in the future? If yes, When?

Steven- I haven’t visited Ohio State yet, but I’m most likely going to see when I can head up for either a Junior Day or a spring practice.

SYR- What is your impression of Ohio State and Urban Meyer?

Steven- Coach Meyer is a proven winner with his National Championship win with Florida and the great success he’s had coaching. He’s just a great guy and a great coach. Ohio State to me is a great school, they send people to the NFL, they have great academics, they have a good fan base and a beautiful campus, and all of the coaches are great guys, especially Coach Warinner and Coach Pantoni.

SYR- Do you hear from Ohio State often?

Steven- Yes I do, I talk to Coach Warinner once every couple of weeks, and I talk to Coach Pantoni a lot.

SYR- Who is your lead recruiter for the Buckeyes?

Steven- Coach Warinner is my lead recruiter for me.

SYR- What would you like Buckeye Nation to know about you that they most likely don’t already know?

Steven- Well I just would like them to know I’m very very interested in OSU and I can’t wait to go up there and let’s say I do commit to OSU, you’ll be getting a great offensive lineman who will be ready to work, on the field and in the classroom, and be the best player/student/man he can be. I will represent the University very well.

Johnnie Dixon committing to OSU (Video)

Earlier this week Johnnie Dixon committed to Ohio State for most fans there was no live video feed of his ceremony well here is the video for all you recruitniks…

Ohio State picks up some Southern Speed

osuHelmet4star_recruit_iconFresh off of yesterdays big recruiting news of landing Raekwon McMillan Coach Meyer and his staff managed to go to Florida and steal a big time WR recruit from the grasps of Miami, Florida, and Alabama. That is two days in a row that Coach Meyer and company stole recruits from the grasp of Nick Saban and the SEC. Sure it is only two players if you listen to SEC fans but the point is OSU can and will go deep into their territory and pluck some of the best talent they have right in their own back yards. This newest recruit becomes recruit no. 19 in the 2014 class and further builds on what will be a top 5 class again this year.

Johnnie Dixon committed to Ohio State and verified it on his twitter account moments ago…

Johnnie Dixon is a 6’0 200 lbs 4 star WR from West Palm Beach, Florida. Johnnie is a big time recruit from the South Florida hotbed known for producing NFL caliber WRs. Johnnie is a burner with great hands but will out muscle you for a ball when he needs to. He has decent size but is already hulked out as you can see in his picture above. I hate to be cliche but he does remind me of Percy Harvin… a strong and physical WR who can take the Jet Sweep and scoot a ton of yards for TDs. 247Sports ranks him a 4 star and the 106th best recruit in the country. Scout ranks him a 4 star and the 39th best WR in the country. ESPN ranks him a 4 star and the 39th best recruit in the country. Rivals ranks him a 4 star and the 109th best recruit in the country.

Buckeyes land their prized recruit

osuHelmet5star_recruit_iconFrom the day that Urban Meyer was hired as the head coach of The Ohio State University he hit the recruiting trail hard and fast and never looked back. He has landed some of top recruits in the nation and the top recruiting classes in the nation the last 2 years. The 2014 class may be the best yet of the 3 under his belt and with the commitment today of the nations top Linebacker he also added the most important part of the class. The needs for the 2014 class are evident Offensive Lineman and Linebackers are top priorities and Coach Meyer already has landed some top talent at both positions but there was always one LB he coveted and fought hard to land and those efforts payed off fully today in landing the 18th member of the 2014 class.

raekwon-buckeye-gloves

Raekwon McMillan committed to play for The Ohio State University Buckeyes live on NBCsports today.

Raekwon McMillan is a 6’2″ 245 lbs 5 star Linebacker from Hinesville, Georgia. Raekwon is a game changing recruit. He is a big boy who hits extremely hard and has speed you dont expect from someone his size. His greatest skill though is his ability to see the whole field and get to the ball. He has those intangibles that a middle LB needs to be great. He will come in right away and fight for playing time at a position of great need. 247Sports ranks him a 5 star and the 16th best recruit in the country. Rivals ranks him a 5 star and the 19th best recruit in the country. ESPN ranks him a 5 star and the 12th best recruit in the country. Scout Ranks him a 4 star and the 5th best MLB in the country.

Buckeyes land a big time recruit

osuHelmet4star_recruit_iconFresh off their win over that most hated team from up north the Buckeyes managed to snag a recruit from the state of Florida. The 2015 recruit becomes the 2nd player in the class that will be sizable to say the least since it the year OSU is allowed to go back up to 85 players. Ohio State landed a recruit they have a need for in a position they will be light in. So here are the details on your newest member of Buckeye Nation…

Jeremy Birmingham of ElevenWarriors.com broke the news via Twitter a few moments ago…

Jamel Dean is a 6’1″ 185 lbs 4 star CB from Cocoa, Florida. Jamel who is a multi-sport star from Florida is a burner in the speed dept. He runs track at a very high level and has the cover skills to shut guys down. He has been an Ohio State lean for some time but had offers from the likes of Miami FL and Florida. No doubt in my mind this highly rated recruit will get a lot of attention in the next 15 months before signing day 2015 but OSU locked him up early. 247Sports ranks him a 4 star and the 167th best recruit in the country. Scout ranks him a 3 star. ESPN ranks him a 4 star and the 197th best recruit in the country.

Q&A with an Opponents Blogger:TTUN

Well here we are at the last game of the regular season, its the most anticipated game of the regular season. This is The Game really nothing in all of sports compares. Folks down south like to think that the Iron Bowl is the best but lets face facts I believe only twice have those teams met when they were both Top 5 or Top 10 something like that. It seems like 9 out of 10 times that the wolverines of TSUN and the Buckeyes of The Ohio State University meet there is something on the line.

I know you are all just waiting for this weeks post on who I’m talking with and what kind of hard hitting questions I can come up with for TTUN. Well this week Joshua who is the editor of The Big House report was ever so gracious enough to work with me on this weeks post.

MotSaG: I wanted to start out with what the hell is going on with the Michigan fan base? I’m seeing they are getting rid of their tickets online and ready to burn Ann Arbor down, is it that bad or just the Wolverine boards I’m reading greatly exaggerated?

TBHR: It’s not fun to be a Michigan fan right now. The season hasn’t gone as planned and the fans are acting accordingly. A lot of the message board fodder you are mostly reading are from fans who have a tendency to freak out. Most fans dont understand the meaning of “perspective” and just want to automstically result in fire and pitchfork protesting.

MotSaG: Do you think enough bandwagon fans get ride of there tickets Scarlet and Gray will overrun the Big House?

TBHR: Ohio State fans always travel well, it’s not a huge secret. Considering how big this game is, I expect the stadium to be filled with plenty of scarlet. Those fans who are willingly giving their tickets to Buckeye fans are part of the problem.

MotSaG: Brady cHoke is in his 3rd season and he seems to be getting worse (record wise) with his own hand picked talent, Is it him or the coordinators failing him?

TBHR: I wouldn’t necessarily call Hoke’s tenure a failure yet. Hoke is trying to rebound from a senior-heavy squad in 2011, the team is young. I’m not trying to excuse the lack of results, it’s just the way it is right now. Is Al Borges to blame for a lack of offense? Probably. I give Hoke one more season before the heat gets turned up on his seat.

MotSaG: One of Michigan’s biggest problems this season is the offensive line, will they be able to patchwork something to keep OSU’s defensive line away from Gardner?

TBHR: Simply put, no. Michigan has shuffled that line way too many times this season. There really isn’t much chemistry there, as you can see from the terrible year they are having.

MotSaG: Whats the over/under on Devin The Pastry Chef Gardners turnovers vs Buckeyes?

TBHR: Believe it or not, Gardner has cut down on the turnovers as the season has progressed. Although that won’t help him this weekend. Considering Michigan will be desperate, they will try to force plays. With that being said, I expect Gardner to have at least two turnovers.

MotSaG: Being this is The Game and the greatest rivalry in ALL of sports Buckeye fans know and expect Michigan to bring their best and then some but my question is have they played their best yet this season at any game or is there to many problems?

TBHR: Notre Dame was arguably Michigan’s most complete game. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t really mean much. I am hoping that Michigan is leaving the best for last. But, again, that’s going to be tough.

MotSaG: Seen a report come out Sunday I believe that cHoke has lost the team do you feel this to be true?

TBHR: Don’t believe those reports, they are not true. Hoke is still respected by the team.

MotSaG: With the issues the Wolverines have been having this season what effect is it having on recruiting? I seen Jabrill Peppers is taking official visits after his season ends I thought that was a big no non in cHokes eyes?

TBHR: I think losing out on Hand is good enough evidence that the season is taking its toll on recruiting. The Peppers thing was overblown, he said he wanted to have a backup plan because of fake rumors floating around that Hoke will be let go after the season. So far, there are zero decommits and I dont really expect any changes with the current class. What happens in the future remain to be seen.

MotSaG: Before the season started I wrote my first post hoping and thinking Michigan was going to be a good team and I also wrote about The Pastry Chef and our site thinking he was going to be the in the Top 25 of the B1G talent as much as I don’t like Michigan I do respect the heck out of them so my question is, is the talent on the team overrated or the coaching overrated?

TBHR: I think it’s just a simple fact of the players not living up to expectations I don’t think the coaching or players are overrated, I still think the team needs one more offseason to be coached up before we can make a determination.

MotSaG: Buckeye fans keep hearing Michigan fans say that Ohio State has a cupcake schedule and they haven’t played anyone ( you know riding the coat tails of national media). If Ohio State schedule is so easy why did Michigan need OT to beat Northwestern lost to Iowa and Penn State and barely beat the cupcakes Akron and UConn? Michigan’s schedule isn’t harder than the Buckeyes yet tOSU is undefeated and Michigan is 7-4.

TBHR: Every team plays each other differently. Northwestern gave Ohio State all it could handle, while they sucked when they played Michigan (as did the wolverines.) The lopsided records to conference strength between the two teams is due to the Buckeyes being a vastly superior team. Its as simple as that.

MotSaG: What does your gut tell you to expect from this game? Final score prediction and if you feel Michigan wins what do they have to do to beat the Buckeyes?

TBHR: I’m thinking Ohio State will put up 35-40 points this weekend. Michigan will lose, obviously. It could be worse, considering the Buckeyes need style points in the BCS.

I’m at a loss here because honestly I have been hoping that TTUN was turning things around and this was going to start another Ten Year War or something along those lines. I’m not sure what the problem is up there nor do I really care but I do know rest assured as much as we Buckeye fans are beating our chests that this should be a slam dunk kick their butts type of game, it won’t happen till the end. As much as I feel that Brady cHoke is vastly overrated and in over his head those kids putting on those putrid maize and blue helmets and jerseys they will come to play.

One of the many reasons I can never look past this team no matter the coach no matter the year 2 games stick out in my mind from all of my many years of watching this rivalry. The kid from Cleveland striking that damn pose and the one which that kid ran all over us for over 300 yards and while he wasn’t doing his Forest Gump impression on the field he was riding a stationary bike on the sideline for which we recommended envy reaper scooter bars. I refuse to mention them by name because when I hear their names I feel that same pain in my heart all over again and if your to young to know I bet they will remind us Saturday.

Like many of you I will be going out early for kegs and eggs and I will make sure I sit next to my friend who is a TSUN fan and revel in his misery I hope. Seriously the Buckeyes could really make a statement in this game early and quickly like they have done this season. This is the game where if the Buckeyes get up early and are firing on all cylinders you better believe the main man from Astubula, Oh will be going for the kill and when asked after the game why did you run up the score. “Because its TTUN”

I as many of you are hoping for a can of whoop ass to be open up on the wolverines but history and my gut tell me the odds makers are probably right with the 13 point spread. The Buckeyes defensive line is going to need to pin their ears back and constantly beat the hell out of The Pastry Chef and Carlos Hyde is going to have to do what he does best run over them again and again.

I want to thank Joshua from The Big House Report again for being a great sport and taking the time out to help me with this weeks post. Please go check out his site they do great work over there even if its for TTUN.

If you want to get involved and have questions about THE B1G Championship Game feel free to send them in to me and I can send them on. Email your questions to AskMotSaG@gmail.com or MotSaG@gmail.com. Would love to know your thoughts on this post and hope you enjoyed it.

Noah Brown commits to the Buckeyes

4star_recruit_iconWell just over a month ago most people who follow and cover Ohio State recruiting had Noah Brown as a lock to pick Ohio State to play his college career at. Then he took a step back from the process and a lot of people started to believe he was going to stay home and play for his home state school Rutgers. Funny thing about that was Urban Meyer clearly had a different opinion and kept recruiting Noah as hard as he was before he slowed down the process. That leads to todays news that Noah Brown has officially committed to Ohio State.

download

Jeremy Birmingham of Eleven Warriors was the first person to have the story and broke the news on twitter…

Noah Brown is a 6’2″ 212 lbs 4 star Ath/WR/RB/TE from Sparta, New Jersey. Noah last year as a Jr. had 4 KO return for TDs, He had 850 yards rushing with 14 TDs, Also had 41 catches for 630 yards and 6 more TDs. He is a big recruit with speed. He brings to the table another guy who can play multiple positions and on both sides of the ball if need be. He fits perfectly into the mold of what Urban Meyer is trying to do with his offensive philosophy. 247sports ranks him a 4 star and the 201st best recruit in the country. Rivals ranks him a 4 star and the 212th best recruit in the country. Scout ranks him a 4 star and the 201st best recruit in the country. ESPN ranks him a 4 star and the 13th best player in the country.

MotSaG Chat with LaCario Davison

3star_recruit_iconLaCario Davison is a Saftey/ATH out of the 2015 class. He is from Galion, Ohio. He is 6’2 and weighs 191. LaCario is a very good athlete and can play both offense and defense. He has no offers but right now, but only being in the 2015 class I believe he will pickup a couple of offers during and after his season. LaCario also visited OSU on saturday for the game against Buffalo. He is a great kid and I enjoyed interviewing him.

MotSaG Chat with Malik Jefferson

5star_recruit_iconThe Ohio State University is known as having some of the best linebackers in the country year in and year out. We have a huge hole to fill at linebacker and Urban is targeting a very talent linebacker named Malik Jefferson. Jefferson is by all accounts one of the top if not the best linebacker in the country. I had a chance to chat with the 6″3 215lb lb from Mesquite, Texas. Jefferson runs a 4.5 40 yard dash and is continuing to grow and has a chance to be a special player who could wind up in Columbus.
