Players to Watch: Buffalo Week

Buffalo
#46 Khalil Mack- This is the best football player in the country you have never heard of. He is a pure 3-4 outside linebacker that stands 6’3, 248 pounds, and is extremely versatile. NFL scouts have recently picked up on Mack’s talent due to his excellent 2012 season. Mack recorded 94 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and 8 sacks, in just 11 games last season. Some scouts have Mack going as high as the 1st round. Despite his lack of notoriety out of high school, Mack has made a name for himself as a complete linebacker, who is not only an elite pass rusher, but also able to drop in to coverage. Mack is an elite football player who can reek havoc if not contained. He will provide an early, major test against Mewhort and true sophomore Taylor Decker.

Ohio State
#26 Armani Reeves- Reeves will get his first start on Saturday and will be tested as he will face Buffalo’s big time wide receiver Alex Neutz. Neutz also had a productive 2012 seasons racking up 65 catches, for over 1,000 yards, and caught 11 touchdowns. Neutz also stands 6’2, 205 pounds. I will be watching Reeves to see how he responds to being a starter. Some guys shrink when the “lights turn on” and some embrace it. It will be important for Reeves to get a pass break up early, or lay a big hit on a guy, in order for him to get comfortable and to play his best football.

#1 Dontre Wilson- Finally Buckeye Nation we get to see what all of the hype is about with this kid. Coach Meyer has stated several times that Wilson will touch the ball early. Wilson will be back on kick returns as well as lining up at the H-Back position. I just want to see Wilson’s speed and comfort level. You can, and should, expect him to make a mistake or two in this game. Regardless of the hype, he is still an 18 year old freshman that has a big billing to live up to. That being said, Buckeye fans should expect Wilson to show off his electric speed and athleticism. A kickoff return for a touchdown would not be a bad way to kick off the 2013 campaign. I’m excited to see if Dontre can deliver that, or some other big play that will give the crowd a preview of great things to come.

  1. Khalil Mack is the real deal but luckily he is but just one man on an ordinary defense.
