SB Nation BlogPoll College Football Top 25 Rankings »

I’m going to need some help from the readers this week. I was out of town and wasn’t able to catch my full Saturday slate of football. I saw as much as I could but I had to rely on box scores and gut feeling. The bottom 5 teams feel wrong to me. All comments are appreciated.

I’d keep AF in the poll over Michigan after watching both games yesterday. AF lost a close game to OU in non-fluke fashion. It was closely contested with AF playing really well. They couldn’t finish a couple drives, but their tackling and execution was top 25 level.

Michigan’s defense is bad. It’s very bad. Robinson will carry them only so far in the Big Ten season. They may get lucky if Iowa and Wisconsin keep sleepwalking on defense, but wow, Michigan’s defense is bad.

Also, Nevada. Very much needs inclusion after that demolition job of Cal. I’d include them over Mizzou, who needed a non-call to clinch victory this week.

  2. @FA – I struggled with AF. I didn’t get to see any of the game but I’ll take your word for its closeness. And I should have included Nevada after dropping Cal. THanks for pointing that one out.

Michigan dropped a spot already. Maybe I’ll drop them even further…

  3. Dang, you’ve jinxed MSU by putting them in the top 20. I’d keep them out just because they won a slapfight with ND, don’t really have a signature win, and I really, REALLY want them to beat UofM without being jinxed beforehand.

  4. Iowa dropped too far. Sparty is too high, Michigan is too high, Miami is too low.

  5. Yeah I’d say AF looked better than Michigan or USC.

Off topic, I hope to be posting again soon once I finish a project for my MBA. And once my lungs start working again.

  6. @NMU – Sorry but when you go with a fake FG in OT you get ranked. If that was the top 25 in brass balls clanging, they’d be #’s 1-25.

@plooder – thanks for the feedback, but could explain your reasoning? I think Michigan is too high, too, but why is Miami too low? They had the week off last week and I moved them UP one spot.

@BN – what world are we living in where you can say “Air Force looked better than Michigan and USC” and be right? Because I love it. (Also, get your lungs working before anything else. Those are important.)

  7. We’re living in a world wherein the Cincinnati Reds have a seven-game lead in their division in late September.

    Joey Votto is a pimp

  8. Make that 8 games with 10 to play. OMG!
