Okay, have at it. Here are a few thoughts:

Of the three big movers, Boise State gets dinged because I couldn’t find James Madison on my ballot. Sheesh, that Virginia Tech win is going to look like Boise State beat a Pop Warner team by the end of the season. Oklahoma moves up because what they did to Florida State was impressive (over 300 passing yards in the first half). I still stand by my prediction that Oklahoma will be in the BCS title game, and that prediction looked shaky after week one. Finally, I left Miami in the poll as the only team with a loss.

Remember: this is mostly a resume ranking, not a power ranking. Ohio State is ranked higher than Alabama because I think their opponent (Miami) was better and they looked dominant on the field. That’s not to say Alabama didn’t look impressive or that Penn State is a bad team. At this moment, Ohio State’s body of work is a smidge better than Alabama’s. At this moment.

So please, have at it.

Comments

  1. I think there should be a moratorium on ALL Big Least and ACC conference schools. No one in either conference deserves to be ranked.

  2. Initial thoughts:

Based on resume alone, UM may be worth a higher ranking (shudder). Their first two teams certainly weren’t pushovers, and they dominated (offensively).

ND doesn’t deserve it this week, but keep an eye on them. Especially if you’re using UM’s victory against ND as justification for ranking them, it implies that ND is a potentially good team.

Also, let’s get USC out of there and give the vote to another PAC 10 team, like Cal or Stanford – both of which have been more impressive so far resume-wise than USC.

Finally, if you’re going by resume alone, I think Fla may be too high. They looked TRBL for almost 3 quarters – at home, to a mid-major. Unimpressive victories against unimpressive competition might not be worthy of #7… JMO

  3. @SYR – But… but… but… they’re BCS conferences! They are good! They’d never lose to 1-AA schools…

@sM – I have call in there and I have no problem dumping USC for Stanford. After looking over what USC did against Virginia, that’s a pretty fair trade. And Florida did look terrible at times, but when they are on their game, they look terrifying.

  4. You must drop USC…… Stanford is better than Cal too.

Now as for Florida you said this poll is based on this year only and not history and if doing so Florida hasnt looked scary at all this year. They have looked very vanilla and not like Florida of past years.

  5. Ok, USC is out and Michigan is going up. I still think Florida looked pretty good in the second half against USF but I can drop them a couple spots. Is that fair?
