Yes, we went there. Say what you will about Utah’s strength of schedule, but that’s not their fault. They scheduled a perennial powerhouse (albeit one in decline) and handled their business. They took out Oregon State, something USC was unable to do, beat a good BYU team, and beat an Alabama team ranked #1 for a good portion of the season. That was a convincing victory over Alabama, by the way, something that Florida can’t claim.
Other than that, I can’t in good faith rank TCU higher than Ohio State. Call it homerism, call it whatever you want. I’m ranking them up there.
The rest of the poll is the result of the chips falling where they may.
“Say what you will about Utah’s strength of schedule, but that’s not their fault.”
Well, it’s partially their fault. If they had not backed out of the away-home-away series with Texas which would have started in 2008, they would have had the schedule strength to be in the title game. While I think they would have lost, they would have been in they won – I’m positive of that.
How is it “not their fault” they had a weak strength of schedule? Of course its their fault that they dont schedule any good teams. TCU, Utah, and BYU never play anyone good so if they want respect and a shot at a national championship they need to play big teams during the regular season. Florida
Don’t forget Utah also defeated that TCU team this year – granted in a close fought battle that they won in the last seconds of the game.
“TCU, Utah, and BYU never play anyone good so if they want respect and a shot at a national championship they need to play big teams during the regular season.”
To be fair, TCU did play a good team during the regular season… and they got crushed.
3-loss team at #7? We are so gonna win Brian’s bias award.
wow, i agree with SM for once, i don’t think we deserve to be ranked so high.
then again, i’m not sure penn st should be ranked that high or above us. we were very close to beating them as well…
