You know what really grinds my gears? **In-State Edition

People that went to a smaller school in Ohio and feel the need to belittle the quality of education provided at The Ohio State University.

Really? Really? Is that you Case Western? Kenyon? Dennison? John Carroll? Bluffton College? Ohio Northern? Central State? Seriously?

Honestly, I only hear this ridiculous banter from one group of students located in a tiny little slice of Americana named Oxford.

This is a serious question…and it normally takes center stage every year that OSU plays Miami in football. This was not one of those years, but I ran across a message board with a Redhawk mouthbreather pumping up his school and dogging big brother…for no apparent reason…

Is there any Miami of Ohio student in their right mind that would consider Miami(OH) to be a better school than Ohio State for any reasons other than the following:

1. The Greek system is like totally crescent fresh…brahhh

2. The campus is really really pretty

What programs of the 12-15 that are offered at Miami are better than Ohio State’s?

*crickets chirping*

I’m all ears, because there isnt a ranking system (maybe The Onion has one that I dont know about) out there that would put Miami above OSU in any academic program…to my knowledge. I know this may offend some of our readers, but let’s be realistic here. Attending Miami is like being a member at a country club for 4-5 years. The grounds are immaculate. Your level of financial well-being (ie Greek or non-Greek) will determine your social status at the club, and instead of playing golf and tennis..you go to classes…

I may be a little off base here, but…per usual…I just dont care…

Dont worry Miami fan there is one thing that Miami is considerably better than OSU in…Hockey…for now.

  1. Fake Miami is where all the preppy douchebags from high school end up. They’re just cranky because they’re finally realizing they’re no longer “the shit”, they’re a bunch of washed up has beens that didn’t make the grades to get into a top flight school.

I may be an alum of a smug private school, but I do have a great deal of respect for OSU’s academics. There’s a whole lot of top-flight programs doing incredible work, and an OSU education is not something to be scoffed at. Yeah, I love seeing the Buckeyes fail miserably in sports, but who doesn’t?

  2. DublinSaab says

Hey now. Miami (OH) is not “fake” Miami.

Miami (OH) was founded in 1809, when Florida was still part of the Spanish Empire and 116 years before Miami (FL) was founded.

Miami (OH) started playing football in 1888, 37 years before Miami (FL) opened their doors and 38 years before Miami (FL) fielded their first team.

If anyone is “fake” it would be the Johnny come lately Thug U in Florida.

Also, not all preppy douche bags end up going to Miami (OH). That is a patently false statement, for if it were true, there’d be no students left to go to michigan.

  3. DublinSaab says

Oh, and Miami (OH) has more students than Miami (FL).

  4. I know this can be a “fueled” topic. There are a lot of people that go to Miami that can enjoy their school without belittling OSU. This particular post is pointed at those that went to Miami and act like OSU is the equivalent of a second rate community college, which is ridiculous.

To each their own. I believe that Miami is a good school…just not on the same level as OSU as far as breadth of programs and quality of programs available.

  5. Sadly, Miami U. is an overly stereotyped school. However, it is disheartening to hear that some here(on Oxford campus) think poorly of OSU. I am from a nearby area in Ohio and some of the smartest students from my high school are being challenged greatly by OSU academics. I personally know it is a good school, but that is the kind of drawback (although unfair) of having a successful football program. Have a good football team, everyone starts questioning the academics. I have no clue why, the two are completely unrelated.

However, to say that Miami doesn’t compare well to OSU anywhere in quality is a very unfair statement to make as well. Our education and business programs are top notch. I would venture to say most of my high school teachers were Miami grads (my high school achieved “excellent” ratings by the Ohio educational board every year I was there). Also, the Big-4 firms in business specifically try to recruit out of Miami for employees, and pairing that with the insane amount of cash being dumped to improve our already outstanding business program, I would feel comfortable in saying that Miami business may be a notch above OSU’s. Osu definitely has us in breadth of programs offered however, no argument there

  6. Personally I think there’s really only one school that could legitimately mock all other institutions of higher education in Ohio, and that’s Case. However Case students are too busy studying and desperately searching for the 3 attractive girls that attend their school.

Can’t we just all get drunk and mock Kent State’s academic pedigree? đŸ˜›

  7. Ken’t read, Ken’t write, Kent State!

  8. Wright State, Wrong School.

There were plenty of bright people form my high school that went to OSU, plenty that went to Miami. I was at OSU when it jumped MU in the US News and World Report rankings, and we celebrated plenty. I think OSU’s previous record of letting anybody in from Ohio is still kind of rooted in people’s minds as their current admissions policy.

There’s plenty of smart people at MU, plenty at OSU. That being said, the percentage of Greek students (frat, sorority) at OSU is much smaller when compared to MU, therefore OSU reigns supreme in Ohio.

@E: Don’t you mean the Case students are all desperately searching the internet for how to talk to the 3 attractive girls at their school?
