Dropped Out:
I’m heading out tomorrow morning for a week of vacation, so I don’t have a lot of time to discuss our preseason BlogPoll ballot, but I will say I hate preseason rankings and I will be throwing mine out after week one and starting over fresh.
Again, we have 5 of our writers voting and I tally up all the rankings and submit a colloborative ballot. Either way, your comments, suggestions and what-not are always welcome.
My question: What has Oklahoma done since 2000 to warrant pre-season #1 status?
A: A decent 2004 regular season.
Unsatisfactory.
I totally agree with what one of you guys said earlier…stop the pre-season polls, PLEASE!!
I’ll be up in Columbus for the Troy game.
Nick – all four of us had the same teams in the top five, just in different orders. Therefore, the difference between OK and Fla in our poll was only a five-pt separation (compared to ten points between #5 and #6).
In other words, collectively, we don’t see much difference between any of those five teams.
To answer your question – “what has OK done to deserve #1?” – it comes down to what the philosophy behind the poll is.
In the preseason blogpoll, previous efforts/seasons are not considered (the ranking is based on _this_ season, after all). Our directive is to cast our vote on perceived season quality. OK is high because of their solid team, favorable schedule, and # of returning starters. While I personally didn’t give them a #1 ranking, I can easily see them going undefeated in the regular season.
