Instant Analysis: Ohio State rips Rutgers 56-17

The tone was set early. Buckeyes defense sack Gary Nova who then threw 2 incompletions.

Rutgers punts, Ohio State converts a 4th and 1 to march down the field in their first possession to take the lead. The closest the Scarlet Knights ever got was after being down 14-0 they were able to have a 10 play 66 yard drive to make it 14-7 OSU. That was the score at the end of the first quarter but The Buckeye rattled off 21 consecutive points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, Rutgers scored 3 in that same time frame. In the fourth quarter Rutgers put up seven points to cut the lead down.

The Buckeyes win their 18th consecutive B1G conference game, going after their record of 20 which is in reach with Penn State and Illinois coming up in the next two weeks.

There are some things that the Buckeyes need to work on but lets admit the secondary is much much improved, had a nice pass rush today and the offensive line really stepped up not allowing a sack to the Scarlet Knights who came in third in the nation in sacks.

J.T. Barrett is inserting himself into the Heisman picture after throwing for three touchdowns and running for another two.

Ohio State has scored 50 or more points in each of its games since the Virginia Tech loss, and seriously that trend shouldn’t stop in the next two games. The Buckeyes are making noise and they are doing exactly what they are suppose to do. Get better every week. The positive for the VT loss was it was early in the season and Ohio State has showed major improvement each and every week. They still aren’t a complete team but they are getting there and need to be by Nov. 8th.

Now that the newcomers Maryland and Rutgers have been properly disposed of time to move onto Penn State.
