Good Coach / Bad Coach

FootballSo, you’re the head coach of a team that just played its last game. You’re asked to say a few words to (or about) your seniors – your captains – that have sacrificed so much for your program. Young men that have worked hard for you. Men that could have played for other coaches, but chose you to be their mentor, to be the person that honed their skills, the one they trusted to prepared them for the future.

How do you handle it?

Like Lloyd Carr?

…or like Urban Meyer?

“Well, for those [seniors] who just put in their time and didn’t make any real contributions, it’s time for you to go. It won’t be hard to say goodbye to some of those guys who just went through the motions.

Now for those kids who actually bought into the program, and who made some sacrifices and contributions — you know, like Bubba Caldwell….he’s a graduate of UF and had a great career — you’ll really miss those guys. But just because you’re a senior doesn’t mean you have any value.”

The differences in coaching couldn’t be more black and white. “Thank you for everything, I’ll always be here for you, I encourage you to finish your degrees,” vs. “You only won one title, and didn’t win enough games, so don’t let the door hit you on the way out.”

This is why I can’t stand Steve Spurrier, Jr. OOOPs I mean Urban Meyer.

What a freakin jerk. Pompous, arrogant, piece of Tiger sh*t!!!!!!

  2. Yeah, I don’t know why anyone would want to play for him…..all the other SEC coaches should use this when trying to recruit against him.

  3. Not only the contrast in this game, but look at what happened last year in the BCS. Carr did the classy thing and didn’t petition and campaign for the number 2 ranking. Urban Cryer whined, bitched and moaned about schedule and SEC Speed and got his way and got into the title game for it.

Well karma’s a bitch and it’s great a classy guy like Lloyd Carr was able to beat Urban Meyer.

    Go Blue!

  4. God, can’t believe I followed the link from the Mzone to your site to watch this video, and what I find, instead, are buckeye fans still whining about last years loss to the Gators. Dudes, get over it, as LSU is gonna seriously kick your ass tonight, too. After they do, perhaps they will erect a replica of their mascot, Mike, on your campus, and OSU students can again show the world how ‘NO CLASS’ is really defined.

GatorBait last year – TigerBait tonight – OSU is becoming the favorite bitch of the SEC. Michigan kicked our ass in the Cap One Bowl, but whose ass have you kicked lately???

BTW, AZTigerFan, Steve Spurrier, Jr., is the son of Steven Orr Spurrier, head coach at USC. Why would you want to hate his son??? What’s with that. You hate someone that you do not even know anything about? Find out which one is which, then make stupid comments – at least you will have your facts correct!

  5. Carr didn’t campaign for the #2 ranking?

“I hope the voters will not penalize our team because we did not play the last two weeks,” Carr said late Saturday on ESPN’s SportsCenter. “I don’t want to campaign, because I don’t think that’s in the best interest of the game. That’s really the main thing that I would ask the voters to consider.”

So he wasn’t really “campaigning” for the voters to put Michigan in the Championship game last year, he was only “asking for consideration”? Carr felt that Michigan and OSU were really the #1 and #2 teams in the nation? Neither team came within 14 points of winning their bowl game…the voters got it right in the polls, and Florida showed the Nation the voters were right and that the Big 10 is over-rated.

After the shellacking USC put on Illinois, if OSU loses again tonight it will be a loooong time before the the Big 10 gets any respect in the National Media.

    (1) Where in this post is any whining about last year’s loss?

    (2) AZTigerFan is on your side, an SEC fan. In case you didn’t know.

    (3) Why does a Florida fan come to a Big10 blog to talk smack after being humiliated by said conference just a few days ago? You lost the right to claim dominance when you got whipped by a team that went 0-1 against the I-AA. Until Florida beats the Big 10 again, the Gators are our second banana. Your bragging rights expired on Jan 1 for football, and on December 22 for basketball (when Ohio State crushed the Gators).

BTW, I saw your post at Gator Country… funny how you say that _our_ post is classless, when all it does is quote Meyer’s disgusting comments word-for-word. Also interesting how you’re not seeming to get much support – other than crickets chirping – in that thread, except for a response showing shame for Meyer as well.

  7. 1. “Yeah, I don’t know why anyone would want to play for him…..all the other SEC coaches should use this when trying to recruit against him.”

“This is why I can’t stand Steve Spurrier, Jr. OOOPs I mean Urban Meyer. What a freakin jerk. Pompous, arrogant, piece of Tiger sh*t!!!!!!”

Would you like some cheese with that whine, sir?

    2. “AZTigerFan” Don’t know who this guy is, (there is no “AZ” in the SEC) but why would an AZ fan be for the Gators? Pac10 for the SEC? I don’t think so. Maybe this “SEC fan” meant AUTigerFan?

    3. As I stated in my first post, I came over here from a link at MZone, not to talk smack, but to see your video. I had no intention of smack talking with you guys until I read the comments, otherwise you would not have heard from me.

Also, your only 2nd banana is UM. You are OUR bitch until you beat us. You can claim that in basketball this year, but not football. In fact, you are the #2 banana to every team you have lost to in the SEC – who have you beaten???

3a. Yeah, must be my provacative heading of “Lloyd Carr’s Good Bye to Michigan Video”. Apparently, most Gators could not care less about what Carr had to say to his team after the game. http://www.gatorcountry.com/swampgas/showthread.php?t=41705 – that’ll stir the masses every time.

But you are correct about Meyer. I thought the same thing myself. The only real big win this year was against Tennessee (f$u was not a quality opponent as in years past), we lost to every other major rival (LSU, AU, & UGA), & the bowl game, and unless we change DC’s, I don’t see any improvement next year, either.

Also, no response to my comment about the mascot on the OSU campus last spring? But then, how can you possibly disagree with me there, if you know the incident I speak of. Truly no class & lack of class by buck fans, my friend.

Stop by GC anytime, if not registered, please register, we appreciate the fans from the other schools coming by, and you won’t get blasted or smacked.

  8. For your #2… I think he’s an LSU fan who lives in AZ. Does it really matter where he lives?

    >>You are OUR bitch until you beat us. You can claim that in basketball this year, but not football. In fact, you are the #2 banana to every team you have lost to in the SEC – who have you beaten???<< OSU is 2-1-1 against LSU. Nice victory today, but it had nothing to do with the Gators.

(If this is true) (and you don’t know how badly I hope it is)…

“Team”… It’s not just in a game… Think about the people you know, at a company you may work for or once did… There is always someone that has “longevity”… There are always people that are never late… You’ll find plenty that do exactly what is asked of them… Of those people, that doesn’t make their “worth” any greater… In fact, I’d go so far as to say that those people are “getting by”… “Being there” and getting by doesn’t get you promotions or win you championships… You need people that are going to do MORE than what is asked of them, while they show up for work, every day, on time…

I’ve seen too many “Perfect Employee’s” that were there, on time and doing what is asked of them… Usually, they have a tremendous sense of entitlement… They deserve nothing extra for being there longer or never calling in, they’re already getting paid… These employees also spend a great deal of time, trying to persuade other, “newer” associates to come to “their side”… These people make me sick… !

If you’re a good worker, doing what you were told and much more, your reward is usually MORE WORK… The coward bossed out there, that are afraid of the “perfect employee’s” are so wrapped up in employee A always being on time, that they forget to see the hard work and efforts of employee B…

Urban Meyer deserves huge props, for telling the dead-weight, exactly how it is, was and will be, next time around…

    I HOPE this is true…

  1. […] Good Coach/Bad Coach…(Carr vs Meyer after bowl game) I found a great contrast between Carr and Meyer having to do with their comments to their teams after the game…Not exactly news, but Meyer is an ASS. No kid of mine would play for him, for certain. Some of the comments he made to Drayer will cost him later, as well on the recruiting front. enjoy: Men of the Scarlet and Gray » Blog Archive » Good Coach / Bad Coach […]
