With National Signing Day in the books, the finest football minds of America’s basements decided to pool their impressive brainpower and share their insights and thoughts of the day’s results. We decided to throw our $0.02 in as well.
As most of you almost certainly don’t know, I’m not one to follow recruiting all that much.

On a blustery day in West Lafayette, the Buckeyes had the opportunity to put themselves into the driver’s seat for a spot in the B1G championship game.
Instead, they spent three hours reminding us why Ohio State will spend a lot of time this offseason in search of new coaching.

As of right now. Not the end of the season, as we thought earlier today.
A lot of people think it’s a shame he’s going out like this, and I guess it is in a way. The man’s been coaching since the Spanish-American War.

Ted Glover at Off Tackle Empire (formerly known as The Rivalry, Esq.) lets loose with both barrels, and it’s a beautiful thing. Be advised, the language is a tad NSFW but given the subject matter, highly acceptable if you ask me.

All this hubbub regarding the Buckeyes has made me wonder lately if Oscar Wilde was correct when he said “The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.” I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that most of us would much prefer that OSU wasn’t being talked about so much right now, but what’re you gonna do?

This is just the kind of data people like me find interesting. It doesn’t really mean anything, but still…
Among the BCS conferences:
Conference: Teams remaining in NCAA tournament/teams originally in tournament (percentage); Total wins – wins/team
ACC: 3/4 - 75%; 7 total wins – 1.75 wins/team
SEC: 2/5 – 40%; 4 total wins – 0.8 wins/team
Big Ten: 2/7 – 28.6%; 7 total wins – 1 win/team
Pac 10: 1/4 – 25%; 4 total wins – 1 win/team
Big XII: 1/5 – 20%; 4 total wins – 0.8 wins/team
Big East: 2/11 – 18.2%; 9 total wins – 0.65 wins/team
So at least the ACC has basketball going for it.

This is going to be a little difficult to write. I should start off by saying the following opinions are strictly my own and in no way do they necessarily represent the overall editorial consensus here at MotSaG.
My reaction to the most recent unpleasantness was initially one of disbelief. Not disbelief that Tressel could have done something dishonest, because I’m a grown man and I’ve learned over the years that no one is as spotless or honorable as you’d initially believe. No, I was in disbelief that so much controversy has come out of something I consider to be relatively minor.

I don’t know about you, but I’m having a hard time accepting that The Vest is 4-1 against Iowa as head coach of the Fightin’ Buckeyes of the Olentangy for two reasons. One – it seems like they’ve played way more often than five times in the last nine years.

I’ve read a lot of content over the last few days criticizing Penn State’s choice to go for it on 4th down late in the first half on Saturday. Everyone makes (mainly the same two) excellent points: they were well within field goal range and had they kicked a field goal would have led by 14 points going into halftime, and the 4th down stop by the Buckeyes seemed to turn momentum into their favor and the game was never the same after that.

Yeah. That sucked.
In a game closer than the final score indicated, the Buckeyes managed to eke out a win. But it wasn’t pretty.
Positives
Uhhh, the Buckeyes won.
The defense played phenomenally once they pulled their heads out of their asses.

You’ll pardon if this is a mite short, but to be honest I’m still basking in the glory that is the Cincinnati Reds’ triumphant return to the playoffs after fifteen years wandering in the desert.
The season starts for real now, as the Buckeyes begin their campaign to win their sixth straight Big Ten title against the Fighting Zooks.

On September 22, 1995, Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise” was the number one song in the country. Bill Clinton was still in his first term in office. I was beginning my senior year in high school. And the Reds clinched the National League Central Division.

I don’t know about you, but I’m having trouble believing the season is already almost a third of the way over. I guess my dad was right – the older you get, the faster time goes by.
Of course, my dad probably can’t believe it’s already 2010 – for him he just saw Back to the Future in theaters.

Over at NDNS I wrote a bit of a rebuttal to everyone in the sports media that has been talking about the pass interference call at the end of the 1st overtime in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. The narrative that ESPN and their ilk have been pushing is that the Miami game is one of redemption for Canes players because of the “controversial” call.

Upon waking up this morning and re-watching last night’s game on BTN, I decided that there were some important points that I left out of the recap. Here’s what I saw after the Miller Lite Home Draft wore off and the Advil kicked in…
I was remiss in failing to point out the game Tyler Moeller had last night.
